C-Class Key problem

Hey,
i have a 2003 C180 kompressor and about a month ago, I dropped my key on the floor. It was able to unlock the car, but not start it. My Spare key is just the opposite; I can't lock/unlock the car, but it can start it. I actually had to start going out with both keys in my pocket! So, While i was away on vacation, I left my car with my dealer who ordered a new key, and programmed it for my car. yesterday, the car was delivered to me with a new key, only to discover that the new key is one of the new ones that are found on all the new models(with the chrome piece around it)
However, the metal stick key from the original key can't fit into the new key, with piece of it sticking out. So now i have to carry around the key fob itself, without any key ring, which now makes it easy to misplace and in trouble if the key fob fails to unlock/lock the doors when i'm out.

What i need to to know is:

Have any of you experienced this problem before?

How can i fix it?

Thanks

I believe they can order/cut the other piece for you also. They probably just didn't realize that what you had was one of the "old" keys, for some reason. I got a replacement and they got both parts for me - the clicker and the metal key part.

Go back to the dealer and have them take care of it.
