Glovebox light?

I just came back from checking out the c-coupe at my local MB dealer. I specifically wanted to see how the interior lights look in the dark - I've only examined the car in daylight. I was shocked to find that there was apparently no light in the glovebox! I did turn on the headlights, by the way. I hate to nitpick, but this seems like an inexcusable oversight to me - for any car at any price, let alone a Mercedes! Yet they did bother to put a light in the ashtray...

You are supposed to put the grossly overpriced CD changer in there, which takes up much of the room. Therefore MB decided you don't need a light. MB is just taking good care of us.

Edit:

Just for the hell of it, I just checked my Coupe and there is a light in the glovebox. It is in the top right front of the glovebox. Pretty bright, too.

got one too.....it shines right on the expensive CD player to remind you about having to get it as an option...well it lights up the rest of the glove box too

Ultra white? hmmmm...

I thought about neon blue....but then I wouldn't be able to tell whether it was pizza, chalupas or fried rice I dropped on the front seat

Should we all have glove box lights? Have one in the C240, but it does not come on all the time....seems to have a mind of its own. Taking my car into routine service next week, so I am going to have this checked out.

In over a year of ownership, i have never noticed whether my glovebox has a light or not. I do know that my ashtray/coinholder has a light cause I can see it through the seam in the wood! I hate that. It might be because I removed the ashtray insert.

Simple answer!....

Guys, the glove box light only comes on when the ignition key is not in the "off" position! I believe this is stated in the owner's manual.

This sounds like a question for the C Sedan forum, I would like to contribute but I have a coupe. J/K

This post begs for the answer to this question -

When you close the glove box are you sure the little light goes out ? Are you really sure ?

Is it me, or do I detect some bitterness there

Maybe it's a busted bulb? My driver side vanity light doesn't come on, either. The one in the glove box works.

I notice the vanity mirror will not go on unless the visor is clipped in. There is some metal contacts at the tip of the visor.

I'm pretty sure it was. The passenger side lit up. But thanks for the hint - one never knows; perhaps the contact is dirty, and wiggling it a bit does the trick. Unless it's that busted bulb I mentioned...
