THE C350
my 2001 c320 has had really no major issues except for a few major issues my "OLD" dealer caused. the biggest issue i have had was the bad thermostat or the pogo door lock that fixed itself for now or i guess the leaky trans connector which is a really cheap fix. overall i have spent less cash on my Mercedes maintenance then both my friends who drive a 2006 Acura Tl and a 2005 civic both with less then half of the miles on my car. (134,500) that being said every brand no matter who (honda, toyota, kia, mercedes, ford, gm, ...) has some really good cars that never have problems and then some not so good cars that constantly break. today i think that almost every brand is about even in reliability it just depends on if you get a good or bad apple. if you look at my car history below you will see that i had a 99 kia sportage which every one seemed to have major issues with. i never had a signal issue with that car and i had it for at least 6 years. my family also had a 97 4 door sportage that was overloaded every day of its life with a vet unit in the back. had a vet break a shock in half over a speed bump and also had a man hole cover flip up in to it. it was sold with over 200,000 still ran great!

also... what warranty do ya'll recommend getting ie, the most cost effective one... i'm sure there are a whole lotta different ones to choose from

and, MAVERICK... how much you pay for 3 years or 100k miles... Powertrain only??

Thanks
If it helps, i think mine was $1200 for additional 2 years. They wanted $1600 or $1800 or something like that but came down to $1200. That plus the one year CPO and the 8-11 months the car still had left from manufacturer gave me almost 4 years total. Its prob a little expensive but it gives me piece of mind.

Having owned Accords (years 1993, 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2005), a 2007 Civic Si, and a 2002 Acura TL - I am VERY familiar with the brand. Aside from the 2002 Acura - in which everything that could break did and it spent more time at the dealer than at my house - the Honda products were all solid.

A Mercedes, however, they were not. Fact. Not a put down.
Well I'm glad that to you your merecedes is more solidly built then a Honda. What I can say from also being very familiar with the Honda and Acura families is that the most problems I ever had with any of those cars was a rattle in the rear deck of my 07TL which was an easy fix. Mechanically, the cars were very sound and not expensive to maintain at all.

I like my Mercedes, don't get me wrong, and true, I haven't had it very long, but from what I've read and heard and the research I have done there was no way I would ever have considered buying my C230 without a warranty whereas with my Hondas and Acuras I never once even considered buying an extended warranty on any of them. To me thats like giving money away.

In any case, I wish you the best. I'm happy with my car, you're happy with your car, and thats it. I found your comment a little degrading to the Honda name but thats ok, we're all entitled to opinions. Take care.

I'm not sure what was degrading about it, but okay. Do you think the C230 looks like a Honda? Does the RWD C230 drive like a FWD Honda? Does it ride like one? None of that's degrading.

Of course Honda is more reliable. I never said otherwise - however - my 2002 Acura TL went through 3 transmissions in 75,000 miles. The transmissions were just icing on the cake, though. The windows only worked half the time, the entire Bose system had to be replaced, the dash had to be replaced, the car had airbag gremlins, it went through rotors like gas (Honda brakes suck, period).. I could go on and on. The service record file for the Acura was an inch thick.

Also, the 2005-2007 W203 cars are fine reliability wise, especially the 2006-2007 M272 cars. My 2005 is easily as reliable as any of the Honda cars I've owned, and while it matches them in reliability it blows them out of the water in appearance and drive.

OP - buy it.

Why do people on these boards always put down Honda's? I think they are very nice cars. I have owned several and never once had an issue. Plus they perform well and you get great gas mileage out of them..
I haven't updated my sig yet, but my 2008 Honda is gone already...replaced by a 2009...no accident- you do the math. I won't argue the statistics...but they make lemonade just like the other guys, and truthfully, they don't drive like a german car. Granted, this is a Minivan, but drivewise, the Pacifica we had before was better driving, better handling, better riding, and ultimately fewer issues than the 2008 Honda. Still, the 2009 has been trouble free....then again its never had an oil change yet...plenty of quality niggles though...panels that don't fit right on the inside, dash cover warped, paint has orange peel that is very noticeable on some panels, but smooth on the next...

My C230 has been relatively trouble free over the last 7 years...aside from the noisy sway bar links, and a dead key....all replaced under warranty.

Many moons ago, I owned an Accord Coupe...it too failed to live up to the Honda reputation-(brake rotors, brake pads, ignition switch broke, clutch, window switch, altenator, etc) so much so that I swore off Hondas...until it turned out they were one of only three viable manufacturers of the dreaded, but now needed MiniVan. The Toyota was like riding in a Buick, and a Chrysler or VW(same van) purchase seemed excessively risky given Chryslers then likely decsent into bankruptcy. The VW version was actually quite nice.
