Scam I don't know how they keep getting away with it. I filed a complaint to eBay and they didn't do anything about it. It looks like the same seller too.

How many more times must we put up with this question about ebay and keys.? Why is it every time someone finds a new worded ad they immediately post a new thread and ask. Which part of NO from all the previous threads is not understood?

AFAIK the coupe was never delivered with a trunk release button on the key. Some members posted that they were able to change the housing because the actual key innards had the button, but not the case.

If you're getting a new key, you might as well do it right, and get a new version of your key. Looks much better, is more substantial, and also has the truck opening button. I've used that several times, and it's a nice feature.

Don't get me wrong....I'm not even thinking about buying a key. I posted it thinking it might be of interest to the members. I was actually Googling to see if I could find a tutorial on how to change the color-coded release button on the key from one key to another (I didn't find any, but, OFF-TOPIC, have you seen this awesome tutorial on changing the batteries, HERE*? I've only changed batteries a couple of times, so I forgot how to get the "guts" out of the key. Even though this tutorial is in Italian, which I don't speak, the visuals tell the whole story. I tend to talk back to the computer in Italian-style gibberish, a la Chico Marx, while doing it. It's fun!) *granted there's also THIS ONE, in English, but it's no fun.

As far as my desire for a second key for recently purchased CLK, I'm hoping I'll find out who the lessee was and get lucky with them. Otherwise it's one key for me!

Its my understanding that you cannot reprogram a key but you can get a technician to remove the chip from your old key and solder it into the new key and it works. problem is you paid for an extra key and you still only have one working key.

If someone actually buys this and takes it to their local locksmith it would a epic fail...

I'd never do it, but think about it: MB has to get their "blank keys" from somewhere and program them somehow, no? I know a guy that bought an MB at an auction, got only one key, then couldn't get another from dealer cuz it was "keyed out", having had 13 keys cut and that, he was told, was the limit. I'm offtopic in my own thread, but the key thing is whack! So, you order a key from dealer, pay $200+, and somehow a "blank" key gets cut and programmed for you. It mighta started as one of this guy's "blanks". They're prolly stolen from MB! I could be wrong (don't drink and BBerry!)

how much is a new key from the dealer? mine broke, my spare is ugly.. =(

I understand they're $200+; depending upon how "broken" your key is, you may be able to use one of the keys on eBay (the link in this thread or others)....the "guts" of the key that you remove when you're changing batteries just gets inserted into the new key's housing. The new key's "guts" are useless. Again, that presupposes that you didn't squash your key's guts!

absolutely NOT. The "guts" of the old style smart keys and new keys are not interchangeable. They blade key is also not interchangeable.

There is a way of transplanting the chip, but that requires precise soldering which most of you won't want to attempt.

when I said "new key", I mean the "new to you" key; the key for sale on eBay mentioned at the top of this thread is the old style:


I assume benzito911 has the old style key, as I do for my W203 and W209. The guts from one old style key would slide into another, no?
