Sorry, that's not really that big of a downgrade. I posted my story in another thread - but to be brief - when I bought my 2005 C230SS I had two choices. It or the car next to it, a 2004 C320. I drove both and was very thorough (I always am). The 2005 upgrades far, far, far outweigh the benefits of the M112 3.2L V6 with 215hp. There is just nothing special about that engine whatsoever, save for twin-spark which just equals more $ for maintenance. The C230SS came with bigger, nicer brakes, an AMG kit, a sport suspension, interior upgrades, etc. It simply was the better pick.

So I agree with HellsAngel when he said trade up to a facelifted 2005+ car.

this is a non ending debate...
you are right, the c230ss is far better than the 320 as a package... but engine to engine, the 3.2 is much better.... lets not flood this tread...

This isn't to confront your statement but the difference between a junk *** Honda civic is price. It's is extremely cheaper to mod a Honda Civic (get more results with cheaper mods) and it is extremely cheaper to repair a Honda Civic my comment isn't directed towards reliability but rather mods and repairs.

OP's car is almost a 9 year old car. It all comes down to are you really drawn to the car? or do you want to make it "bad ***" because it's a car you own?

If you are really drawn to the car then by all means go ahead and spend 3 times the amount of the car and you can make it "bad ***".

The mods that were listed will be 5-6k and it will really not make it "bad ***"

This isn't really bad ***. This is more like sell your car since "it's more than 7k" and buy an 05 and above c230 instead which will be more reliable.

AMG body kit all around
i would roll with 19 inch rims
Depo head lights / HID
New 2005+ Tail lights
2005+ side blinkers
Tint 35% all around
Coil Overs or H&R Springs
Rear spoiler
quad exhaust
Blacked out grille
Blacked out side markers
Green air filters / K & N

LOL you guys definitely scared him off!

My opinion is that people come to this forum for advice about their car...not their financial portfolio. So lets just help the guy out with his question or refer him to other threads which contain the information hes looking for rather than talk about how much his car is worth and how he shouldnt mod it or whatever....that is if he ever comes back.

Dude, if you read this, dont be frightened. These guys pounce on all noobs at the start, but theyre good at heart. They just need some time to warm up to ya...lol.

Yes, the 01 C320 is a POS!

Whens its cold out, my car now locks and unlocks its doors by itself. It even honked on its own once.

The worst was when my sunroof opened halfway on its own one night when it was raining... I woke up to soaking wet seats.. it was retarded.

Cant wait to save up for my older body 540i stick shift... or should i get a 02 C32?

both should be attainable at 10 grand come spring time. (at least manheim prices)

c32 private sales are around 12k these days for average mileage... a little more (14,15k) for below average (around 60k miles)

c32
yeah.. but like i stated.. i meant MANHEIM auction prices

silver c32s seem to bring less money than black.

Black c32 with 90,000 miles bring in around 11,500

Silver c32 with 70,000 miles bring in around 10,500

maybe i can grab a c32 in april of next year with around 50 - 70k miles for about 10 grand.

all i need to do is sell my POS. maybe i can get $5,000 for it?!?

i don't get how your sunroof could open on its own? and i think it is funny you think the 01 c320 is a pos but think an 02 c32 is fine.

I spent a ****load on my 01'.

And I'm happy

OP, it all depends on whether you can justify the amount you spend vs the real value of the car you're spending it on. You can always just buy some rims and call it a day!

Whats wrong with modding a 7 year old car?

if you know that its been maintained well over the years, and plan to keep it for atleast 3-4 years more, its definitely worth modding.

I wouldn't go and change the engine on my 02 C230 or modify the coupe to make it a sedan or something like that, but minor mods are perfectly fine

if you read my post you can see that i asked him if he is willing to keep it at least couple more years...
+ nothing is wrong.. but if you want to make your car a "badass" then you definitivly need more than 10k and that exceeds the price of the vehicle..
and i think anyone smart enough will know that its much better to simply replace the car for the c230ss

I didn't stop spending yet, so technically I would be modding still in 2010, haha.

My suggestion is not to get an '02 C32 since there are major problems that year that can scare you off. For one, Glycol contamination on the tranny due to a faulty Valeo radiator. Meaning, radiator fluids will get into your transmission over time and yep, you'll need to replace the tranny $$$. See threads in the C32/C55 forum on this topic.
The "upgraded" version of Valeo radiators were installed at the later part of 2003. Most people after getting the glycol test opted and went with a Behr radiator. This is just an example of a major issue I can think of off top of my head.

As for other minor issues, IC pump failing, stock crank pulley broke off (my car at 60K miles, and glad I happen to be upgrading mine to an aftermarket one), supercharger disengaging (probably due to high IAT temp, IC pump and heat exchanger replacement will take care of the issue mostly) etc..

Just like everything else, best to do research. Sorry for being

of course black is more expensive, not only for c32's...
take any car, the most expensive color combo is black /w black leather then black /w tan leather, then other colors, then silver...
i happen to know that because the guy who got me the car is a dealer we know so he told us : you want black/black you have to wait...
then when told him we wanted a black/black X5 he told us its around 1500 more expensive than the silver 1 !!!
