My daughter’s sunroof started out having trouble closing without some assistance and now it grinds and is very difficult to close even when pushing at the same time. I've seen some similar posts however I have not yet found a good detailed solution for repairing the unit. I assume the track has gotten "sticky" and therefore is requiring additional force on the motor and gears.

sedan or coupe? either way your daughter can live without a sunroof they are usually very expensive to fix. i think if you search way back i saw a thread talking about sunroof problems like yours. gl

It's a Kompressor (coupe). Yeah I don't mind doing to work myself, however it would be nice to have some disassembly or rebuild instructions.

i would suggest you order the w203 service dvd from Mercedes. it is what the dealerships use to take apart the cars and has everything you would ever need in it i will post a link for you in a sec. it cost around $70 but is well worth it.

There is a set of plastic gears that wear out & require replacement. There is a DIY somewhere on this forum. If I find it I will post..

Thanks for the DVD manual link, I will definatly pick one up. As for the gears, yes it makes sense that I need to replace them, I just want to ensure I fix the root cause of the sunroof not sliding smoothly on the track.

I had the same problem....and I ignored it. One fine day..I was driving along with the sunroof open and CRACKKK....plastic pieces flew all over including the interior of my car.

The hinge that holds the front deflector in place broke off and now the clip springs out the minute I open the sunroof.

FIX IT while its easy...
