most affordable muffler?
i'm interested in getting a muffler, however i want the most affordable one. i don't want an aerospeed or anything that is ridiculously loud, and i don't want the shatz tips cuz i think they're overpriced. i've heard about remus, sebring, eisenmann, supersprint, carlsson... out of those which is the most affordable, and if there are other ones out there, what do you guys recommend. i'm looking to spend in the $400 range. would i be able to find anything like that in that price range?

I shopped mufflers for a while and found the least expensive muffler specifically made for our cars is the Remus at $589 This muffler is very quiet and it will be stretch to tell the difference between it and stock at least from my experience. You can go with a generic muffler like APC for $100 and then have a muffler shop hang it, I don't think it will be much louder. What's suprising is I haven't found any place that will discount the MB specific mufflers to the level you mention. The best I can get on the Remus is about $500.

I have the Renntech and Linh has the AMG, it's no contest, the AMG sounds better/louder at idle and has a nice raspy note at high rpms, full boost (on the coupe). The Renntech (Sebring) is very quiet and MB like. Has a low rumble at idle that you can hear if stand behind the car and when you drive you can't tell it from stock. Quality on the Renntech is not that great, it quickly developed a crack at a weld, I left it that way because it made it louder

I like it. Very quality welds and dyno tested.

AMG parts are available at your local dealer. Don't know if they have it for the coupe yet but they may, as they have the other stuff like the AMG spoiler for the coupe. If they have it, get the part number and then check a discount MB dealer like Hoen in Carlsbad for a better price.

Obviously, the stock one ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Not helpful, I know, but at least I gave you the obvious answer to your question...

At least include something more helpful like what size hole to drill through to make it sound better. That's what people did on Harley's that couldn't afford the $110 aftermarket muffler, they would get a holesaw and drill out a hole about 1 7/8" right through the center. Sounded great.

Hawg heaven
Noisemaking tip #2:
OK, to emulate your local biker, remove entire exhaust system aft of header downpipe. I'll give you 10 minutes before a cop nails you for it though. Just why the cops don't EVER go after the infernal Hawgs with open headers, I'll never know...
Noisemaking tip #3:
Import a CDI engine, have Jake Brakes adapted to it, put straight stacks (vertical) on car, and voilą, you'll never need to use your footbrakes again

Hot rodders always complain that they get tickets for noise and Harleys don't. Don't know about Canada but in CA, motorcycles are allowed higher DB noise level than cars. My hog was fairly noisy and I never got a ticket for it.
