Question about wheel bolts...
Hi all,
Just got a set of CLK500 wheels for my W203 (UPS nearly destroyed them as they do most large packages).
My question is, should I use my stock lug bolts? It looks like the same number of threads are exposed and the seat is the same, but the head of the bolt does not seem to protrude far enough - It would require a deeper than standard socket to reach. Is this how it's supposed to be or should I be using lug bolts with a longer head?
This is what it looks like:

Thanks

Are you trying to tell us the OEM wheel lug/bolt wrench in your trunk won't work with your CLK500 star wheels??? Or are you using a mechanic wrench set?
Our W203/CL203 uses the same stock lug bolts as CLK 208/209 (when using Mercedes-Benz/AMG OEM wheels specified for W203/CL203 or CLK 208/209).
Thread size: M12x1.5
Ball Seat: R12
Shaft Length: 39.9mm
Hex size: 17 mm
Thus, as long as your OEM stock lug bolts are in good condition, you're good to go!
BTW, I doubt you'll be able to find lug bolts with the above specification and with a longer head.
Better to just get a regular wheel lug/bolt wrench with 17mm hex,... one with a longer handle for better torque.
Remember: 6 full rotation should give you required 80 ft lb torque.

The Mercedes supplied tool will still fit fine with the deeper recessed bolts on these wheels.
I was using a Craftsman socket without an extension which normally fits fine. Needs an extension now. I just thought it looked a bit strange having the wheel bolt head so deeply recessed in the wheel.
I was thinking the proper wheel bolts might be more like this:

but of course not quite that long.
Looks like this is the way it's meant to be. Thanks!

acr - my new AMG replicas also have the lug head deeper in the hole - so to speak - but correct protrusion of threads & ball head bolt requirement. You are good to go. You have company!!! Now I'm waiting for tyres.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but take a look at what I found...
http://cgi.ebay.de/Mercedes-AMG-Rads...item4cebc9f8c3
Looks like apparently there are AMG specific wheel bolts? Functionally they are identical to the stock bolts, but the bolt head extends further out.
I think the stock bolts look alright though.
Here's what mine look like:
(this is before I installed a set of wheel locks with chrome heads.... now I wish all the bolts were chrome so they'd match )
