Does the digital HVAC control need to be calibrated or anything?
I really want to get the digital HVAC control in my car because I hate those stupid little knobs. I did a little research and I found that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I just wanted to make sure these don't need to be calibrated to the car or anything. I found a brand new one on eBay and I got it today. When I plug it in I can control the fan speed, but I can't control the vent position or temperature. When I unplugged it and plugged it back in it changed the air output from the defrost to the floor but I couldn't change it from there. The part number I bought is: 203 830 44 85. Are these the signs that this will not work in my car and I need to find another? I e-mailed Steve a few weeks ago about looking for one of these but I never heard back.

We should actually try to start an exchange group!
I wanted to get a digital unit but was afraid it would not work. After reading threads it does seem like a hit or miss situation. If this unit does not work for you I will buy it from you. So, I can try it out on my car.

Push and hold the 1st 2 buttons on the Climatronic with the ignition on. (Windshield Defrost + Recirculate). The lights will start blinking in an alternating fashion. Takes a few seconds, so be patient.
After this, everything should work except the passenger side damper dial (the one you spin) and the filter button. They technically aren't broken, but will do nothing as your car is missing a bunch of parts compared to Climatronic models.
This has been discussed many times, please search next time. And welcome to MBW

I did search, but I didn't see anywhere saying that I needed to calibrate the unit for it to work properly. I looked through BF_JC230's thread and I didn't see anything mentioned about that. Maybe it was mentioned in that thread and I missed it, but I'm not sure. There's so many different things people call the HVAC control, it's very hard to research this particular subject.

No, on the unit being referred to it is for the passenger side air-flow. On the C240 / C230 / C280 that function does not work because the system is not designed for separate airflow settings on either side.

Edit: 91RS reminded me with his post below - it will keep flashing if you don't have the proper stock unit installed.

Calibrating it appears to have worked! I pressed both buttons and it cycled all the actuators like 5 times and I unplugged it to stop it since I imagine it was trying to calibrate the non-existant air-flow actuator for the passenger side and all appears to be working correctly now. I went ahead and installed it permanently, so hopefully it stays working!

No problem. If you ever take it to a stealer they may very well tell you that your HVAC system has a bunch of errors logged - they are simply because that unit is expecting parts that aren't there. Should still work fine (as many people here have proved).

I love mine, you will too! Although recently i have found trouble having 2 differnet medium temps for driver passenger...i can have max cold and max hott (one for each) but i cant have like 75 for driver and max hott for passenger...it just makes it all max hott...maybe i'll try the reset thing too cuz i dont remember this issue when i first got the unit 3 months ago. And no to install it doesn't need to be reset, and mine ran me about 130 off ebay junkyard...
