Lurching with 5 speed auto

Hello everybody,

I have a 2002 C230 Sportcoupe with the five speed auto. When I’m in “S” shifting mode (Standard? Sport?) there’s a significant lurching and thud noise whenever I move between Park, Reverse, Drive, etc, especially if I am not at a complete stand still/revving low. When I’m in Winter shifting mode, however, the lurching is just barely noticeable – maybe 10% of what it normally is. Any idea what could be going on?

Thanks!

Check fluid level & make sure you let the car return to stable idle before you move the shifter. Be patient - These things happen slowly on a Benz. If you don't you are hard on the transmission, rear transmission mount & the flex discs on the propshaft.

Has this box been serviced with regular filter, fluid flush & change? If not do it soon.
