I've been in the 40s as well.

I noticed when I set the cruise to 70 mph I would get 27 miles per gallon, but at 75 mph it would go up to 30+ mpg
This is at 3000 RPM for 75 miles per hour, in my 2003 Coupe.

I am driving a C240 the last two days (loaner) and I notice 3000 RPM is like 65 mph and 75 mph is 3250 RPM. They are supposed to have the same 3.27 rear end, and both are automatics. I looked up the transmission ratios and both have the same ratio for each of the 5 gears. My Coupe has the 17 inch tires and the sedan has 16 inch, but they should be the same diameter.

So the question is, which speedometer is right?

It appears that everyone is getting the best gas mileage at 75 mph, what RPM are you at?

Got my coupe back from the service department today. They cleared the "check engine" light, only thing they actually did was replace a couple of spark plugs (at 6000 miles). I was able to cruise on the freeway at 65 mph, first time I have ever been above 30 mpg, in fact above 32 mpg.

Can't wait to try it in cruise control at 75 mph, which has always been it's best speed for gas mileage.

Don't push it Wayne, it's an MB! I'm really bold, driving up to Santa Rosa next week and hopefully back. Maybe my car will break down before then so I can take a loaner

Actually, come to think of it, the highest I've seen was 70 mpg coming back from the mountains, I just left it in D and didn't touch the brake either. Avg speed was probably around 60-70 mph, and it was about 20-25 minutes of downhill, so that number stayed around for a while. I don't think I'll ever see that number anywhere else, though.

I go to work at 5 am, so 75 MPH is slow. I set the cruise because I would be doing 80 to 90 is I didn't.

I feel so much better in the Coupe, the C240 is not my cup of tea. Once you have gone C32 you never go back.

Of course a C320 with full C32 sway bars and brakes would be nice

Damn you guys. I'd be happy to get ANY mileage that was posted.

I avg. around 20-22 mpg. My best is around 25-26mpg. But that's like granny driving ~60-65MPH on the freeway trying to keep the RPMs down below 3k

eyuan23,
I will trade my Coupe for your C32 straight across

Then you can get 30+ miles per gallon with no granny driving

Be happy you got just about the badeest car arround. I am thinking about changing the rear end to a higher ratio, from 3.27 to 3.69. I will lose 3-5 miles per gallon but will be much faster 0-60.

haha sorry. I didn't mean to seem like I was b*tching. Of course when I got my car, I knew I would be spending a lot of time at the gas pump .

I just can't believe how you guys can get 40 mpg . My old E46 3-series couldn't even hit that mark.

I don't think you would worry about getting 30 mpg instead of 35 :p. Add a nice teenie weenie pulley on top of that and pretty soon I'll see you camping out at the gas station like me
