acr2001,

Yes I do have memory seats for both sides, I will unplug both of them, and report back my findings.

I did do a search, and found 1 thread that was exactly like my problem, but there was no solution posted.

Thanks for the tip.

Quote: Assuming you have memory seats, the seat controllers (under each front seat). Unplug both of them for a few days (do a search) and see if the problem goes away. Then plug one in and narrow it down to driver or passenger side.
That's correct...common draw is the seat control units if you have them. The parasitic draw on that car should be no more than 50 milliamps.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the tips, I also replied to an old thread after I did a search. It is the same situation as my car, but there was no resolution in it.

I will report back with my findings. The Optima is on the charger now, once it reaches sufficient charge I will give it a try.

Thanks,
Ken

The only fix for the draw from the seat modules is to replace them.

That of course is correct...well unless you just want to leave them un-plugged when you park your car

Funny, the seat modules worked like that on my CLK with no modification, and they work that way in all the other cars that Merc makes (I think).

are you talking about turning off or something else. they are supposed to turn off automatically but the old ones have a flaw that keeps them on which will drain your battery overnight. i am one of the lucky ones that has the new pn in my car so i hopefully will never have this problem.

Oh, I see. I thought Mercedes just didn't have them switched assuming that they wouldn't draw power if they weren't being adjusted.

That would be such blatantly bad engineering that I have no words for it - this is not the nature of the problem!
The problem is with the control module not properly "going to sleep" as it is designed to do.

That would be scary if MB did that, but there are some things that do worry me about the cost cutting that has gone on over the past few years.

Samaritrey,

Thanks for posting the link to TemjinX2 thread, if my problem turns out to be one or both seat modules, I will definately consider either the relay or switch method of repair. I also noticed the link to the web site bba-reman.com, I might even consider having the seat module repaired depending on how much it will cost.

Again thanks for the help all.

My car has the power/memory driver seat and steering column. My car is an 05, so it's past this problem period in the W203. My seat controls do not work if the car is off and the driver's door is closed. They will adjust the seat with the car off only if the driver's door is open. This is correct operation, no?

This is the correct reason for the draw...it's not cause they stay on, it is due to an internal fault. Most faulty seat control units will draw about 150mA
