Dead Battery LOL
So i had to make a new thread for this because it was so funny. Ok so my battery has slowly been dying for weeks now. i priced a new Mercedes battery and found the dealer right next door to my new job has it for the cheapest around. so finally today i had two goals for the day. first i had to mail lots of packages out at the post office. then i was going to go to the Mercedes dealership and pick up a new battery. so this afternoon i was loading all 20 boxs into my car and while i was doing this i turned on some tunes. so 10 minutes of tunes later i was ready to go. i get in and try to start the car and well the battery was right past the point of starting.
so far i have called Mercedes road side assistance and am now waiting for the guy from the dealer to come save me and put in my new battery. this has been a long asked question if they will charge for install and i guess i will find out very soon. so i will post back for you guys to let you know. the battery was 150 or so when i checked a few weeks ago. oh and when you call road side assistance they are really nice people i actually talked to the guy for like 20 minutes about Mercedes and stuff. btw they are not outsourced which i like a lot. the guy at the dealership that called me to check address and what i needed thought it was funny that i am laughing so much
i will try to take some pics for you guys
i will hopefully be back soon with some good news.

Yeah let us know how this goes. With the sensitive electronics, I figure I'll let Roadside handle it. As far as bringing fuel, though, those are outsourced.

Ok that was awesome. ok so i meant the phone people were not outsourced not the service. so the guy showed up in a fully loaded white ML with a neat tool chest in the back of it. put the new battery in re synced everything and i paid him for the battery only and he left. i also tipped him because he was done in no time at all and was very polite and knowledgeable. so know the piece of crap advanced auto parts battery is gone and i have a nice Mercedes battery. oh and the car started up way better then i can remember it so the battery has been weak for along time i guess. ok well hope this helps everyone out this is a good way to get a new batter because you don't risk blowing the sam yourself.

My auxiliary battery is reaching the end of it's life. The last two times I've left my car at the airport for a couple of days, I get the "Convenience Functions Temporarily Unavailable" message until the car runs for a few minutes. When I leave the car in the home garage, I don't have a problem because the garage is nice and warm.
So I called the dealer about a replacement and the SA told me I could come in and they would replace it, but she suggested it would be better to call roadside service and save the installation fee.
I'm calling roadside assistance tomorrow.

The car always started normally on the main battery and the convenience functions have came back every time after 5-10 min of driving. If the convenience functions don't come back on after driving for a short time then your battery is shot. Once a battery gets old or run down for a long period of time, no amount of charging will bring it back. Time to call roadside assistance and avoid the labor charges ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My aux battery is almost five years old and I've run it down a couple of times by leaving the lights on. If you have Keyless Go, when you leave the car, the warning in the cluster says don't forget key instead of telling you to turn the lights off. it usually happens when I turn the lights on manually instead of using them on auto.
Still, roadside assistance saves you the labor charges.

I'm wondering if I should replace my 5 year old battery now and avoid having it die on me. Normally I would wait, but I'm worried about damaging the electronics. If I swap it out myself I can wire up a temporary battery and avoid ever losing power to the electronics and having to resync.

My original Merc 100Ah battery is now 6 years old & fine - Had it checked the other day. I wonder when it's going to give up. Middle of winter no doubt.

Also, Drew, a $25,000 Honda will turn its lights off, even if you leave them set to ON. The fact my car is smart enough to turn the seat belt telltale off when a door is opened, but not smart enough to cut power to headlights if I leave them on makes me wonder about ze Jurmans.

2002 C240
Hi All,
Great info on this forum, i have enjoyed reading it from time to time.
Make a long story short, i have an 02 C240, about 22 months ago the original battery quit. No problem, I removed it per the method described in the manual and replaced it with an OReillys Battery (mistake). The only error I had was the ESP, I simply turned the steering full left then full right and the message went away. A couple of days ago I went to the car to go to work and the battery was dead. This time I took my reciept and the battery back to O Reillys, because it was less than 2 years old I was given a full refund. So I purchased an Optima red top battery, installed it and had the same message ESP. I turned the steering wheel full left then full right no more messages. Hopefully this battery will last longer.
I was not aware of the free labor roadside replacement of the battery from Mercedes, I probably would have just had them do it.
Ken

What's funny is that, a while back when my headlight switch was being weird, I GAINED that functionality. My lights would go off when I pulled the key out of the ignition. It was handy for when I forgot. I got in the habit of that, though, and now I have to make extra sure to remember now that my car is fixed.

From everything I know about your car, I think it just has a mind of its own.

Okay all,
I replaced the battery with an Optima last week and this morning it's dead again. Apparently there is some kind of draw on the battery, I have no idea where to start. The car is completely stock, no after market lights, sound system etc. I have owned it since new 2002 C240. Any ideas where to start looking?
Thanks
Ken
