running rich effects

So my car has been running rich for the last few thousand miles. Took it to my mechanic but he kind of informed me that it would take a while to check out and usually I dont have the time to leave it there all day to pinpoint.
Drivability has been fine.
Just curious what bad side effects can result from running rich except for lower gas mileage?

running rich will kill your oem cats. OEM cats are outrageously over priced.

if you are running rich you probably need to replace your o2 sensors, check spark plug gap and make sure you have no fouled plugs, check your ignition coils and then make sure there is no obstructions in your air intake (change the filter) and then a throttle reset might help to...

probably a safe bet to say your o2 sensors are old though and need to be replaced... this is how your computer checks to make sure you are at optimal air fuel ratio and then balances it.
