Aftermarket Headunit Questions?

Hi there,

I want to upgrade the standard audio 10 headunit to a double din DVD player but i can't seem to find any wiaring diagrams of the standard headunit.

Does anyone have a Wiaring diagram of the stock audio 10 headunit?

Also i beleive there are 8 speakers as factory, it looks like there is a small sub woofer in the rear parcel shelf aswell. How do all 8 speakers connect up into a head unit that only has 4 speaker outputs?

Since there is a small sub in the rear shelf, im guessing it would have a stock amp somewere?

I have tried searching but could not find the answers i was looking for.

Thanks.

unless you have the hk or Bose system you don't have a sub. and if you don't have the upgraded audio you only have 6 speakers not 8. GL

Hrmm... So do all w203's have 1 larger speaker in the rear parcel shelf? Its on the right side only? And the speaker is facing downwards to the grill in the trunk.

This isn't my car but this is what it looks like:

well in the w203 that is where the sub is. so no not all w203's have one. onley the ones with the upgraded audio (HK or Bose) i don't think that pic is from a w203 becase my sub is in the other way but i may be wrong.

what year is your car that is interesting. in the US atleast we have the upgraded audio with a sub and the standard audio without. you were right the sub is positinoed like that sorry

ok what year is your car i assume 01-04 right? if it is then open your trunk and crawl in and look up and if you geet a flash light it will say bose on the speaker. if it does then you have a 10 speaker bose system. the amp is on the right side of the turnk. also retrofiting your hu just got alot more fun. the audio from the hu is sent over fiber to the amp where it is sent out to the 10 speakers.

Its a 2002 model.

I have had a look before and i didnt see anything written on the speaker, i will have a look again.

If there is nothing at all written on the speaker what does that mean? Also if i have the Bose system does that mean i should have a speaker and sound coming from the middle grill on the Dash?

Thanks for that. I will also take a pic of mine and we can see if they are the same.

I have read on some other posts that w203's do come with a rear sub 9" even if it doesn't have the bose system?

Hi Guys, sorry about the late reply.

I took a pic of the sub in my actual rear parcel shelf from the bottom side in the trunk.

Does anyone else have anything like this?

Have you owned the car since new? That is not like my Bose speaker at doesn't even look like it is mounted the same way. In the US i know that the only way to get a sub is get the upgraded audio Bose 01-04 HK 05-07.

I have only had the car for 2 months.

But its not an aftermarket system or anything, it comes like this from factory in Aus.

So my car has 2 door speakers on the bottom, 2 tweeters on the top of the front doors, 2 speakers in the rear doors and the one sub/speaker in the rear shelf so 7 speakers all up.

So if i was to get a aftermaket head unit preferably a dvd/tv, most units only have 4 speaker outputs, so how would 7 speakers connect up? There must be some kind of amp or pre amp or something that controls all of this in the car somewere.

Where is the location of the bose/hk amp?

I dont think i have the bose/hp but anyway... Can someone explain how 7 speakers get connected into a radio that only has 4 speaker channels? There must be an amp to control this right?
