Snapping Grill Tabs

I'm repainting my grill slats and while attempting to remove the chrome piece from the slats, I broke a tab or two, so I stopped. How should I go about this? A new grill? Or maybe I could remove the chrome piece after soaking the grill in hot water to make things less brittle and more flexible?

Thanks.

LS

use a flat head and lever the tabs from the back of the grill.

The hot water trick might work. These grills get brittle from sun & engine heat exposure over time.

Oh, good!

Also, if you don't mind! Are you using the OEM flat badge on your hood?
