c240 2003 spark plugs (m112 v6)
Hi,
My car just hit 51,000miles and I think i am due for a spark plug change because when in idling, car shakes a bit...
I have a couple of questions
1. Whats the original spark plug? four tip electrorode?
2. I am thinking of getting the bosch 7422 at www.autohausaz.com. is
this better than the Bosch 4501 (four tips and platinum/iridium)?
Your feedback will be most appreciated.

I tried pulling out the plugs yesterday (to check condition of plugs), the 1st four plugs are easy to do, but the remaining will be a bit hard. I will have a mechanic do it instead of me...
Appreciate your replies guys.. I do hope my slight shaking during idling will go away when plugs are replaced...

his car only has 51k on it. assuming the engine has been running at proper parameters, i see no reason why his plugs should be bad. aren't the factory plugs supposed to be good for about 100k miles?

Also, the price for that special wrench was definitely too high, but you are going to need something like it to get the plug wires out. They're on there VERY tight and they are very hard to get a grip on. I had to borrow a tool from my mechanic friend.

ROW do plugs every 100,000 Km or 4 years. From what acr says - MBUSA recommend every 5 years or 100,000 miles. It all depends on how often the plugs operate on a cold engine outside the self cleaning range. You can't put these plugs in a grit blaster to clean them - it will destroy the plug. Cars that do long open road work operating at full combustion temperature for prolonged periods will see greater plug life. Hence the Benz time limit.

My plugs were shot at 45,000 Km due to my low usage duty cycle - in town car

ban me? i could care less. im not even a regular on this board, as you can see i have only 3 posts. i only registered cause my girl has a c230k. and im a spammer cause i showed a tool that would make the job alot easier to do? so be it. we tried to inspect all the plugs but could only pop off the front four. granted the engine was still warm, but it was still a pita. i didnt do alot of research on that tool that was the first one i found. yea 60 bux is a lot but if you have a mechanic do it they charge $90 and up!

Hey,
You don't need some crazy tool to remove the wires.. Cylinder 6 is a ***** to remove the spark plugs.. But it can be done.. Get a 17 size wrench and that's how i removed all the plugs. When your pushing the plugs out use the force of the head.. If that makes any sense..
I'm using the Bosch 4 tips on the bottom.. A lot of ppl told me to use the reg ones but i wanted to try these out.. When i bought the plugs they were almost 10 dollars a plug =(
I haven't had any issues in 20k miles besides being low on gas.. haha.. car idles perfect no jumpiness in the idle what so ever.
Knock on wood!

Finaly had my spark plugs changed over the weekend. I also changed my MAF sensor as well. Car runs smooth now, but with very little/slight vibration when in neutral.
My mechanic charged my 220 bucks for the MAF and plug changed (labor only)
Now time to buy my 18 RIMS =)
