Maintenance Schedule

I bought this used 2006 C230 Sports and here comes the first maintenance I need to do on it. It's at 42K miles so far. I tried to call a few places and they all cost around $80-100. Is that reasonable?

Besides, I called the dealership to see if there is any maintenance items need to be done and they suggested these:

Transmission fluid flush/change
Power steering fluid flush
Fuel filter replacement.

I know they are normal items need to be done as major services. But I don't seem able to find when exactly these need to be done. Some advice or pointers, please?

If you don't have a service booklet that comes with the car, may I suggest that you pick one up. You can then keep track of all your maintenance and know when everything is due for maintenance.

I did look up the manual and it only listed out the service A and B. And neither of them involve the transmission/steering...etc fluid flush and so. I tried searching in other websites as well but don't see a clear schedule listing out them out with itemized details. All other car manual i've read always have these mentioned so I'm surprised that I couldn't see them in the C230's. Or am I just totally missing it....?

Trans flush at 39,000 miles, one time only, so make sure that it was done already. It will generally cost $350-400 at the dealer. A lot of that is all of the synthetic fluid.

If someone is quoting you $80-100 for a Service A, and they are using the full synthetic mobile 1 0W40 and fleece Mann filter, take them up on that! It cost me like $60 for the 9 quarts of mobile 1 at Walmart, and $20 for the filter at Napa, and then I did the oil change myself. The dealer gets ~$199 for a service A, which isn't much more than an oil change and chassis look-over. You can tell when the next service is scheduled for your car by scrolling through the mileage menu on the instrument cluster display. The interval for service A and B is 13,000 miles, alternating between A and B.

The reason people are telling you to search, is because this topic has been beat to death. But, you happened to catch me in a particularly giving mood. Attached is your maintenance booklet in PDF form.

Thanks much Johnand. I do have that booklet and now I see I missed the "additional service" portion.

SickSpeedMonte, I carefully read through the additional service section and I don't see an item for the Tranny fluid at 39K miles..? In fact, the only "transmission" word I find in the manual is a "check-level" at 143K miles.

The 39,000 mile service is the 7G automatic transmission. It needs to be done regardless of what the book says. And yes, this topic has been discussed oh so many times. Try searching for "Service A" and "Service B" in the forum and you'll be able to find what each of them entails. The car will prompt you for this every 13,000 miles or 1 year (whichever comes first) and they will alternate. Dealers will try to stiff you so you're better off knowing what each service means and getting it done correctly elsewhere.

You are right. Appears MB didn't update the Service Booklets. Though, they released a service bulletin about the transmission service to be performed on all W203's with the 7G at 39K miles. So, you are best to follow the 2007 Service Booklet attached. Check out in particular page 50 and 63 on the transmission service.

Try these for some background-

Might be some overlap of posts, but should contain some good info on what is involved in a A and B service
