Gnarly Paint Chip

The normal nicks in the hood aren't that bad, this one is rusting.

Not sure how it happened but it is new, drivers side rear quarter panel, to the metal, and rusted. What do I do?

Thanks

If you have rust, it must be sanded off, metal prepped, primered and painted. Unless, something new has been invented in the last 20 years or so since I was hanging out with an auto painter.

Even though it's a chip, isn't their some sort of rust guarantee?

The dealer may are may not be the best place to have the quarter panel refinished. My dealer doesn't do any paint or body work and sends it all to a local shop. The other dealer in town has an outstanding body shop. People wait up to two months to get their car in to that shop. I know of one Mercedes shop elsewhere that I wouldn't let paint my garage floor.

Try to find a shop that is both ASE and I-CAR certified. That doesn't guarantee quality work, but at least somebody there had good training and passed some examinations.
