Angry C240 Creaky Noise Diagnosis - Advice?

Hi All,

Need a bit of advice as usual - The front of my C240 has been giving off this very odd, strange sqeak recently whenever I make a sharp-ish left/right turn. Not so much a high pitch screech, but more of a 'rocking chair' sort of noise which is reminiscent of a rusty door hinge. I took it to my mechanic and he recommended I change the shocks, which I did today; but alas the problem remains.

Does anyone have any clue what this might be? I'm thinking maybe the sway bar is having issues? The odd thing is that the car only creaks when turning left/right or going up gradual inclines, but not when its bouncing up and down from potholes, which LA has plenty of. Ultimately, the car itself is fine and hasn't been exhibiting any major problems beyond the annoying sound. Call me ****, but that squeak drives me nuts!

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers!

I would say sway bar bushings just because they always seem to be the problem lol.

Your sure it isn't coming from the drivers seat? Mine makes exactly that noise when turning or going up an incline because of my weight shifting in the seat. Been meaning to fix it...

Mine actually does that too! I actually (unfortunately) know what you mean, and yeah, I've learnt exactly what that sounds like and these noises sound like they're coming from the undercarriage. But that being said, how exactly does one fix the seat problem?

I would say sway bar bushings
Oh you have a good point there. Do you know how an amateur like myself can check to see if that's the case?

I've heard that the seat noise is usually caused by one of the following:
- bolts need to be tightened / lubricated
- the spring under the cushion needs to be lubricated (can be accessed from under the seat / behind the backrest by taking off the rear portion of the seat)
- leather/mbtex rubbing where the cushions come together - I guess this could be lubricated too but I'm not sure what I would use.

The seat is absolutely a cake fix. I will look for the thread.

There is the thread. There's a picture posted of up under the seat, you need to lubricate the brackets. After I did it, the squeak diminished a lot then went away for good and never came back.

Agreed!

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think its coming from the suspension more than the seat. As much as I am thoroughly annoyed with it, it's live-able. The squeak from the undercarriage makes me think the car's coming apart at any moment >.<

Do you guys know how much it usually costs to change the bushings if that's indeed the problem? Thanks all!
