speaker wire attachment question...
Got my replacement tweeter in today and am going to install next weekend. Just wondering what stuff companies put on the leads when attaching the wires to the speakers that holds them on...I noticed on my other tweeter there was some kind of hard clear gel substance...
Any guesses? I would just wrap the wire around the ports on the tweeter but I dont want a loose or bad connection, these are 600 dollar components and I want to utilize every watt!!!

That hard glue over the termination could be acting as a strain relief. The termination point could therefore be considered the weak spot in that chain.

not sure what you're referring to amdeutsch...what do you mean by weak spot in that chain?
My speakers went bad and I had them replaced over christmas. When the installer put them in it was found that one of my tweeters was DOA. He gave it back to me and I noticed some hard clear gel substance on the + and - leads where I assume he connected the wires with.
As I finally got a new speaker back in the mail from Boston I want to install the tweeter and am wondering the best way to install them w/o the use of a soder gun. I don't have one readily available at least not one that doesn't require a wall outlet. so I was wondering what gel they possibly used to attach the speaker wire...
