I knew someone would ask what the aux heater system was sooner or later. Well, Webasto makes it for teh Benz. It's basically a type of remote start for teh car. A seperate remote comes and operates a small burner unit that heats the radiator fluid and circulates. The interior fan also turns on to heat the interior. The remote is the size of the regular key with a on and off button. Works upto 600 meters. If temp is higher than preset, it sets it to vent mode. It does not turn the A/C on at all. This feature is available in Europe mostly. COst of upgrade: DOn't ask

Cell Phone kit working intermittently
About 20% of the time when I put my cell phone into the cradle the Dash Display does not register that there is a phone present. Turning the radio on and off again cures this problem. There are other times that the Dash Display just says Processing, I have to then turn off the car, remove the cell phone, turn off the radio and then start again.
My car is the right hand drive 2003 C Class Coupe imported from Germany. (I live in South Africa). The cells phone cradle and cell phone is Nokia.
To date the agents have been most understanding and helpful but have not found the source of the problem, so far we have tried the following.
1) Replace the Cell Phone Cradle
2) Replace the radio
3) Replace the controlling unit that sits in the boot (The unit did say Motorola on it but I was assured that this is the correct one)
4) Replace the Nokia Phone
After doing the above the phone works better for a day or so, but then goes back to its old tricks, i.e. it is not being picked up by the Radio, and getting stuck whilst processing.
Please help im getting desperate as im missing too many calls, does anyone out there know how to cure this problem.
Thanking you
Antony Berrill

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
I installed my V60 kit myself, and had to take it to the dealer to get it "enabled". There have been 3 updates (and several teleaid updates) that have been done since.
You should have them connect to the star diagnostic computer and rev the system....if you have teleaid, have them do that too.

ATT killing TDMA service, is there any economical in car phone upgrade?
well, after really NEVER getting my TDMA Timeport working in our C-Klass, now ATT is pretty much all but killing their TDMA service in the bay area. Service is very lousy, and the quality of the calls is poor.
Would anyone recommend some conversion or alternatives for builtin, that would allow a GSM phone?
Or, possibly would you recommend getting a CDMA version of the Timeport and just using that? Now with number portability I am not too carrier specific.
Man, I would love to get up to a UHI somehow so we could just use all our BT phones.
Thanks for the thoughts and recommendations.

What sort of updates have you had to do?

The antenna compensator was "updated" (changed out) once and the black box that connects to TeleAid had two firmware updates. Teleaide has had 4 separate "software" updates since I got my car (in Oct. 01) to communicate with the sat. system on a wider band....and one to correct an error message from when they disconnected my battery during service.

I have exactly the same problem. The phone is not recognised about 25% of the time, or the phone switches itself off and on again after I start the car.
I tried replacing the phone, but this didn't make a difference.
I usually put the phone in the cradle before putting the key in the ignition.
If you put the phone in the cradle after you've started the car, it seems to eliminate all problems. I've been doing this for a week, and so far I haven't had a single problem.

Tortoise you describe my problem exactly, especially the bit about the phone switching its self off and on again, and then I have to enter the phone pin again. Im going to try your work-around solution. However we must find out the problem.
PS what type of phone are you using, Im using a Nokia.
Do you have the c 230 sports coupe?
PLEASE E MAIL ME IF YOU FIND A SOLUTION,

I am using the same phone, but have tries others and had the same problem. My phone is configured in the standard factory settings. I guess we are the only 2 members of the board who have a right hand drive car imported from Germany that uses the Nokia phones. I think the Americans use the Motorola phones.
I have just had MB replace the cell phone controller, it is a small electronic box that sits under the carpet in the boot, This has improved the situation remarkably, I now only have the error occurring +/- 5%. (Get MB to do this on your car)
There is still something wrong, as with electronics it either works or does not, intermittent faults are only giving an indication of an underlying problem that needs to be found.
I have tried your suggestion, re: starting the car first and then placing the phone in the cradle, I must say your suggestion works, thank you but MB must still find the problem.
Peter what is the price of the C 230 coupe Evolution spec in Oz.
(And sorry for calling you Tortoise in the previous post)

I would be interested if there are any other people on the forum who have a right-hand drive Sports Coupe, with the Nokia, and aren't having problems.
By the way, my phone has been mounted on the dash, as I didn't like the new-style mounting in the centre glove-box......is your phone set the same way ?
My dealer tells me the problem we're having is a known Nokia firmware issue. That's why I'm keen to see if anyone else out there is using a Nokia without problems.
Around $79,000 (Aus) driveaway for the C230 Sport Coupe Elvolution here. Not sure what that is in Rand.

I used to have a 2002 C Class coupe and the phone was on the dash and it worked perfectly, I traded that car in for a 2003 model which has it hidden in the centre consul. (I prefer the centre consul as it is hidden from view and we have a high crime rate so it necessary to hide the phone)
The car is quite a bit cheaper in SA at the current exchange rate we are paying 65,000.00.
I agree with you, I would love to hear if there are any other right had drive sports coupe drivers having this problem, Im not convinced that its a Nokia Problem as my dealer tell me that they are not having problems with the phones on the 4 door C Class, its only on the Coupe.
The right hand drive 4 door C Class is made in South Africa, whilst the right hand drive C Coupe is imported from Germany, I think it is something with the car and not the phone as I have not heard of this problem on 4 door C Class, have you?

If you have an old Nokia 6110 in the closet I suggest you give that a go.

JeT,
I see you have a 2001 Sports Coupe. While yours would be a German import, I think the 2001 Sports Coupe wouldn't have come with the UHI interface (I may be wrong).
From what I know, the 2003 models and up come with the new UHI interface.
Thanks for the info in any case.

Peter I think you are right, previously I had a 2002 Coupe and I had no problems with the phone.
I am only having troubles with the same phone and my new 2003 model Coupe.
(is there any chance you related to the Walker family who are world experts in the restoration of WW2 Amphibian jeeps, they also live in Brisbane)

I hope you can work it out.
Which MB service department do you go to? I always go to Three Point Services...not the flashiest service facility but definitely the best in terms of service. They may be able to get to the bottom of your phone problem.

A member called Sunman is working on retrofitting UHI into his C320 sedan.
Stay tuned.
I am also waiting to hear from member "mik" from www.mikbox.com who is working on an integration between the MB system and any modern phone using cables or bluetooth.
If you find out anything pleas post here since I am sort of in the same boat.
