Caller ID on instrument panel with v60 phone setup

I have a 2004 c230 with the v60 phone setup and euro command. When I receive a call the phone number shows up on the instrument panel display not the persons name. When I answer the phone the display will change to show the persons name. When the phone is ringing and not showing the name on the instrument panel display if I select phone on the command it will show the name not the number. Please let me know if anything can be done to fix this.

thanks,
Mike

I remember reading something about this in WIS. I believe phone numbers have to be stored with the +1 format. Meaning +18005551234 Many people just put the area code and number, Try this and see if that fixes it.

I will try that. I think when the number does come up it has a 1 in front of the number. I will try asap.

thanks,
Mike

Putting the 1 in front of the number didn't fix the problem. The caller ID does work on the command it is just the instrument panel display that it doesn't display the names only the phone number. And when it shows the number it doesn't have a 1 before the area code.

thanks,
Mike

did you put the + sign in front of the one like sunman suggested.

I tried to put in the plus sign in front of the 1 and it would say the number is invalid. And you can only select the + in the car using command, it can't be selected on the phone itself. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

thanks,
Mike

This is not a GSM phone, hence the leading "+" is not accepted, as CDMA/TDMA have never been meant to be used internationally. Out of luck with this one, I guess. Upgrade to UHI & GSM!

it must be the phone as my nokia 63xxi will display the name in dash console if the name is programmed in the phone. Although something interesting is if you hack the display screen (for instance if your main screen banner is Mercedes-Benz instead of T-mobile) it will still only show the carrier name and not your actually banner. Sunman, what about your new Nokia with the kit? have u played around with the phone display logos, screensavers, etc?

'05 Cell Phone "Pre-wiring" and Aftermarket Phone Install

This has probably been covered (but I am a "newbie"): I would like to hook up a GSM phone to the factory system, but did not opt for the V60 Phone/Cradle. What are my options/associated costs? Thanx.....

Can't Help You

But my '05 C230 SS is pre-wired for the cell phone. Does anyone know if there is a kit or mod to connect my LG VX6000 (Verizon) cell phone?

Sunman is putting together a group buy for the kits (inclusive of PSE and a custom cradle), but only for pre '05 W203s.

My understanding is that only GSM (T-Mobile, Cingular, etc.) phones are compat. w/ the factory system. Verizon uses the CDMA standard.

Yeah I backed off that as Steve already has it covered. The kits will be available in a month or so. As of now, there is NO VERIZON or SPRINT or NEXTEL phone that will work. Only GSM based phones. Cingular and ATT and T-Mobile

'05 and later C/CLK and possibly other models will be worked out after the D2B cars are shipping. Figure about two months afterwards, depending on our access to newer cars to test with.

Is MB only GSM?

MB in Europe (where Steve supplies his parts from) is only GSM. That's because in Europe, there's only GSM.

MBUSA supplies IS95 (often referred to as CDMA) and IS136 (often referred to as TDMA) phones, which were the primary technologies in use in the USA until AT&T migrated to GSM, joining with Cingular, to bring GSM on par in usage with the other two.

If you're looking for a Verizon solution, you can turn to MBUSA and a Motorola phone (check their web site). There DEFINITELY is CDMA support. It's just that it is proprietary to MBUSA (the kits, even the PHONES, must be sourced originally from MBUSA).

GSM has better reception though over CDMA/TDMA right? ive had cingular, previously pac bell, for nearly 6 years. my mom has AT&T and was using a CDMA phone and switched over to the GSM plan and she says its so much better.

It depends where you are. IS95 (CDMA) on Sprint uses 1900MHz and thus doesn't penetrate buildings as well as IS95 on Verizon at 800MHz. So Sprint requires higher cell density than Verizon, in general. GSM in California on Cingular at 1900MHz doesn't penetrate as well as IS136 (TDMA), AT&T in California, at 800MHz. Also in general regardless of the band, GSM requires higher cell density than IS136.

So there are A LOT of factors, the biggest being... where you are ... what kind of equipment you are using... and of course, what technology your provider uses, and how well has the provider implemented it where you are.

Dash Display: How to Delete Telephone

I don't have a telephone. However, when I scroll through the screens, one of the screens is for telephone.
Can that screen be deleted??
(and how)

take it to the dealer. tell them to take the menu option out. all they have to do is mark telephone as not present and the menu option disappears.

im having my re-activated because im getting the UHI. but i had it deleted when i first got my car.

Thread's here

I think the instructions are mid-way down page 4. Dealer might charge for it, but most don't. Not having that annoying message makes scrolling trhough the displays much better.
