Drive Belt Tensioner (M271): DIY help needed

Does anyone have a DIY guide to change out the Drive Belt Tensioner on the M271? Or any tips and advise? Any special tools needed? (i searched the forum but only found posts where people had the dealer fix under warranty)

Mine is starting to whine and the dealer wants $610 to replace it. I found the OEM part for $89 on RMEuropean (part #271-200-02-70). I have a mechanic friend that will help me, but it would really help if I could get some advise or tips.

Edit: Read a thread where someone said you need a T50 Security Torx and a T60 Torx. Any other tools needed?

i had mine done at the dealer, all he had was a socket wrench, took him all of 5 minutes to do i watched, should be simple, especially if you have a mechanic friend.

I really hope it is that simple, but I think it might be more difficult on the M271 engine, as there are more belts and pulley's because of the supercharger. It seems as though I might have to remove a lot of pieces in the engine bay to even access the tensioner. At minimum I will have to pull out the intake tube that runs from the grille to the filter.

According to the MB Maintenance DVD, you will have to remove the supercharger to get to one of the torx bolts. You will have to remove drive belt and intake manifold and a few other components as well. If you are planning to do it yourself, I suggest that you purchase the MB maintenance DVD.

Ouch.. having to remove the S/C? That's why it costs so much - labor intensive. How many miles are you at?

Just a little over 130,000 miles. Now I see why the dealer was asking so much. Maybe I will just shell out $600 and have it done at the dealer. I don't really feel comfortable removing the supercharger.
