If you really want to be different and get noticed, get a siren and a light bar. You can pull over your friends and be completely different and unique at the same time. I would think that having a Mercedes vs. a Civic or Chevy terdmobile would be different enough as it is. I would have to agree with a few of the other guys that if you're going to mod your car at least do it with products that are made by serious Mercedes tuners. Although some seem to think so, all the normal civic and other rice rocket accessories, blinking lights, chrome gizmos, things that actually make the car worth less do not apply to a Mercedes. Even though we have the least expensive version MB makes, don't ruin it. A few years from now you'll wish you had kept your car stock and spent all the money you spent on mods, on keeping it looking new.

Wow, I'm amazed at how much hell you get around here when you have an idea that is different from the "norm" of MB Drivers.

If somebody wants to do something, let them. It's their car not yours. It seems like there was a simple question asked and everyone chimed in with bandwagon responses of how much they hate them and all.. If there was no answer available what is the point of making someone feel bad for asking in the first place?

I'm new here and I was just thinking about changing my Door Sills to Light up ones. Which is actually kind of ricey, but since MB offers it as an option nobody thinks about it.

taylor192:

The rears look good smoked, but I see what you mean about the front markers - they look a little odd. I remember someone did paint them silver and they looked pretty good (whoever did it used a thin coat that looked silver but still flashed amber - they described it as looking like ET's belly).

Bet you can't wait for summer to put your other rims back on - yikes!

Cheers, BT

Thanks, yeah the side markers look kinda funny, but no worse than the amber ones so I'm not losing any sleep over it.

The steelies! Gotta love them! 15" painted and now rusting again steelies!

See the snow banks, they are half the size of before, its been > 0C for about 1.5 weeks up here. It'll be awhile before the C7s go back on, normally just after it all melts, we get one more, plus the streets are dirty with salt and sand, don't wanna scratch my rims.

I think there is simply heavy opposition to doing something unique to a benz that has been overdone with other cars.

Even on csportcoupe.com, you would get much the same thread you did here.

I think you should check out miamirice.com and other like sites to see why you shouldn't buy or seek out those lights for the coupe. There are much more unique things you could do with your money. (Euro rub strips, carbon fibre difusers fabrication, custom leather!!!)

Those things are on every other car here in NJ. My personal favorite is when they can't afford the whole kit, so they just install two out of four components, leaving the lighting set on the boot lid stock. Maybe they are just being unique.

Ah, the price of originality.

I have a maxed out civic too... but theres just somethings that were not meant to be done on a Mercedes... but all that is personal preference... we can't knock somebody off for what they want to do to "their" car if we don't like it... personally I wouldnt' want that played out altezza look on my benz either but if the guy wants to be different then let em... "its not my car"

Afraid of a little opinion? Don't post it then.

I like the light up sills, its subtle yet cool, without being bling bling look at me **** that's OBVIOUSLY tacked on to the outside of the car.

I'm just thankfull that no-ones mentioned 'gold plating' the badging, the star and the grill. Honda offers that gold package **** on its RSX...now that is just STUPID looking.

I didn't think rims made that much of a difference....damn...the coupe looks horrible like that. I am not making fun or anything, I wish I had ordered the same setup this year, but i was playing the odds, several years of almost no snow...

Outside, non peelable, couldn't be bothered to try and find the peelable stuff here in Ottawa, we don't exactly have a huge auto accessories business as its only nice 6 months of the year.

Tinting the inside wouldn't do much, too much reflective material in the lense, also the lenses don't look like they disassemble easily.

nice

Nice. So you just spray 4/5 thin coats on it? Does it last that long? I mean what will you do if the paint chips or sumthin? I'm in Iowa and hell there's no decent auto shop or that kind of thing so have to buy everything via net. Thanks.

I put 3 coats on, its a judgement call depending on how dark you want it and how heavy your coats are, just if you do do it, then know this, it drys much darker than it looks at first, so its best to go very light coats and see what you like.

I clear coated it afterwards, should help against chipping, but even if it does chip, its just like the paint on the body, its going to ship then you have to fix it... plus I can't see too many rocks flying up and hitting the tail-lights, unless you drive in reverse alot, and fast!

yeah

yeah. The chipping would mostly come from items getting bumped to the rear like suitcases, etc. etc. But anyway, I'll try that and what kind of clear coat do I need? Is it the one used on model cars (1:18 scales). You know like the one sold on hobby stores or some other clear coat? Thanks.
