i own a 2007 c230 sport with about 27000 miles. I took it to the dealer because i was hearing this strange noise under my hood when the car is running high rpm... at first they told me it was spark knock so use 91+ octane i was running that in the car anyway so they told me to empty out the tank as much as i can and put fresh fuel in it. they even put gas additives in it. about three days later i got the gas very low and put fresh gas in it. that didnt work so i called them and they said T.A.C said that bring it in they will test some things out and they will figure something out. two days later i came got the car and what they found out is that its the intake runners thats making the noise. they said its when the short runners is swicthing to the long runners and its normal to mercedes benz standard.. so i test drove a car same one that they had at the lot but with 16000 mile didnt hear it they told me its because its a lil bit newer but eventually it will make the same noise. any one ever had this problem or heard about it????:All C230 with V6 2.5 engine they said it will all make the same noise eventually. is this true??

#1 you do not hear a knock from not using the right octane your car retards himself not to knock. #2 intake runners making noise? Intake runners are designed to distribute air throughout the cyclinders. You need to be more specific about the noise you hear. Does it happen when u give it a lot of gas?? idling etc etc can u remake the noise whie ur car is in park while opening the throttle?

On many land rovers with dual runner intakes, the flaps break in them and will make a clicking noise, maybe your intake broke or snapped from its mounts of one of the flaps and is causing your problem.. My car makes no clicking noise and Im at 41k now and bought it with 34k

no does not make it when it idling or u jus givin it gas while on park it happens when ur drivin u can hear it real good if u auto amnual it when u bout to shift it from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. give it some gas when u bout to shift put it on s mode. it sound like whistlin noise plus if u can drive it next to somethin like the meadian or bridge, wall so the noise actually comes back to u. its pretty loud in mine but the mercedes dealer here wont do nothin bout cause they had some regional tech clear it. idk if u guys drive the same car wit bout the same mileage mine got bout 30 thou. now. sounds like a spark knock cause at first the head tech at the dealer thought thats was the problem i already tried the chevron techron nothin seem workin. let me know if ur 07c230 sport makin it too or had the same problem and how u fix it

I'm not familiar with the sound of a "spark knock" but according to the first part of your description, I would almost bet its your Engine pulley cover

For me, it was as simple as complaining about the noise, taking the tech on a ride along to have him verify (that way they cannot come back saying they cant duplicate or verify the noise) and then picking up my car once it was ready

do we even have the same engine. mine the 2.5 v6 is ur the 1.8 kompressor cause if it is ur havin a totally diff\. problem. i took the head tech. for a drive n he verify the noise n wat they came up wit is the intake runners switchin from short to the long runners eeven the REGIONAL TECH. said it was the runners so i dont know wat else to do. closest dealer is in minnesota im from iowa. there is a place here that services mb and bmw but they gonna charge jus to check the car. and i mean the dealer swore to me that its normal its jus annoyin when ur tryin to take off wit ur windows down and ur hearin this whistlin noise.

Well go back to your dealer then and I'm sure they have at least one V6 C230 with 35k+ miles, test drive it and if it doesnt make the sound show them, then go from there, tell them you have a friend who heard your car, had a smiliar problem and for him they replaced the pulley cover
