for a 2002 C240. I have looked extensively on the internet but can't find any place that sells the removable star for the C240.

Not sure I understand. Your stand-up Star ornament is readily removable as it is. Open hood, twist the lock on the underside of the ornament, and it pops out through the top of the hood.

If you're looking for a flat badge (which is also removable) your local dealer has them for $25. Just ask for an SLK badge and mount.

Or if you forget to take it a 2yr old could remove it...lol...its a neat idea...back in the 80's any MB star around NY got stolen, our 240D had it replaced at least 5 times.

Um, excuse me, but if you can "simply pull this hood star out...", can't anyone?? (Maybe you open the hood and release it from there...) Still sounds "iffy".

I suppose that anyone could pull the star out, but then anyone could break it off. I have heard that the stars don't have as much value as they used to, so people are less prone to break them off. I guess they were once made out of brass and were worth more.

Anyway, I appreciate the comments; however, I still need an answer to my original question. "Does anyone know where I can obtain a removable hood star for a 2002 C240?"

haha..same deal in taiwan. my grandfather used to have the driver take it off everytime the car is parked, and put back in when driving.

my dad use to have that on his 86 300SEL. that was back in Taiwan, when idiots like to take MB or Jag's ornament.

It was not the value. It was because certain types of people hung them around there neck and thought it was cool. Rappers used to wear them in there music videos, so every tom, dick and harry had to have one after that.

If you want a detachable mercedes hood emblen I think libelleq is today the best option.
