Headlights turning on even if headlight switch position is off

I tried searching this but could not find anything. My wife has a 2002 C240 and a while back, her headlights started turning on automatically even with the headlight switch position at off. My independent mechanic told me that the computer or microprocessor on the headlight switch had gone bad and to change the headlight switch. I changed the headlight switch but that did not fix the problem. We never had this problem before so I would appreciate it if somebody could point me in the right direction to troubleshoot or even fix this problem without having to go to the dealership. Thank you.

Withing the menus that you access from the steering wheel you can set it to constant or manual.

Are you in Canada? if you are its because of the mandatory Daytime Running Lights (DRL's). The headlights glow at reduced intensity during the day (even if the headlight switch is set to off) and at full intensity at night...the off position on the headlight switch is pretty much useless here in Canada.
If youre elsewhere where DRL's are not mandatory (like in the USA), you can go into your cars settings using the dash screen and turn off the Daytime Running Light feature. Once its back in normal mode, you should be able to switch off the headlights.
Let us know if that fixes it.

I am in the US. I looked at everything and the setting on the instrument cluster is at manual.
