Tips for buying a C230

Hey what's up I'm the new guy and I'm finally looking for a new car and I came across a 2005 C230 kompressor Sport, I'll post the link. I need something that gets good MPG while being fun to drive and not some cheaply assembled POS, I have a 300C now so I've become to like the luxury. However, the 300 is boring to drive if I'm not going straight and it eats through gas. Just wondered what pointers/input you guys have. Is the price too high?? Too many miles? What kind of MPG do you get realistically, it's quoted at 23 city, 32 hwy? Would like to drive it home next week. Help me out, I wanna join the club. Thanks in advance.

I don't think the price is that bad? I prefer the 06 & 07 with the V6 with the six speed.

1999 CLK320 (sold), 2007 C230 SS (gone), 2000 Grand Marquis, 2011 CR-Z, stay tuned...
I don't know much about the price, but the car looks to be in good shape. Depending on what price you can get, I'd go for it. Just the normal "make sure the service has been done" and "read the stickies for common problems." Good luck!

Price is about right for the mileage. Maybe a little high. Depending on your area, you probably won't do that much better at a dealer.

At that mileage I'd ask about the sparkplugs, fuel filter, and when the last time the transmission fluid was changed. And as always, brakes.

2004.5 C230K Black Sports sedan
Not a bad looking car. I just bought a 2004 C230 Sport Sedan, with 43000 miles. The dealer wanted $16,900, I negotiated it to 15000.00. Ask for the car fax. I think the car on the link is a little too high. I have seen the same car sell on ebay for 14-15K with 50,000miles. But I guess when it comes down to it, if is has a clean car fax and you like it, what the heck you only live once!

High f'kin mileage for the price, but then again the 2005 year had majority of feautures stripped from other newer w203's. Look for a 05 w/ command.

that price even for your region is high, id pass on that one 05 with 50k are going for 15k but not one with another 20k miles like that, they sell for 12-14 based on manhiem prices. 06 didnt loose much compared to 05, just 07 which got a craptacular stripping.

05 manual>06 Manual>05 or 06 auto, just FYI, 05 dont have the 7g tranny.

I also prefer the six speed manual. It will give slightly better performance, slightly better mileage (real world), and a lot more fun.

Engine is a personal choice. The V6 is a very nice engine, but the 4-cylinder (supercharged) has a definite advantage in the fuel economy department; it is also slightly faster. I always recommend people try one of each before buying.

As stated in above posts, proper maintenance is very important.

Last year I picked up a 2005 Kompressor sedan w/around 18k on the odometer for $15k. Mars red, auto, sunroof, CD changer, and that's about it in 'options' (no nav, no heated seats, HK, etc). I ONLY buy from individuals, so it was a privately owned car.

I got between 27 & 29 'mixed' driving and the best was 34mpg on the highway with air on and running around 72mph most of the time. Sadly, a short time after purchasing the car I got rear-ended by a SUV...with my sister behind the wheel and sold the car.

Do you research: lower mileage specimens are out there in that price ranger and even cheaper.

If speed is important to you, I would pick up a C32 or c55 AMG.
You Could probably find one well taken cared of for 12k-17k.
05-07 C230 is a great fun car but a little slow, something to take into consideration.

I think "speed" is relative to the driver. I owned a '02 C230 coupe and the '05 sedan and I didn't find either of them to be 'slow' and both were autos. I found them both to be peppy for 4 bangers.

The instant you get it; you should do the following service...

Full Service B, Transmission Oil Change, Supercharger Oil. You're going to need to replace spark plugs in the near future. Spark plugs on the C230 Kompressor is every 80,000 miles, I believe.

Lastly, make sure the air conditioner doesn't have a weird smell when the A/C is off. Also make sure the air conditioner blows cold.

The car is a fairly reliable car. Mine has done very well (knock on wood). I'm very pleased with my C230 vehicle.
