Engine is a personal choice. The V6 is a very nice engine, but the 4-cylinder (supercharged) has a definite advantage in the fuel economy department; it is also slightly faster. I always recommend people try one of each before buying.
As stated in above posts, proper maintenance is very important.

05-07 C230 is a great fun car but a little slow, something to take into consideration.
Full Service B, Transmission Oil Change, Supercharger Oil. You're going to need to replace spark plugs in the near future. Spark plugs on the C230 Kompressor is every 80,000 miles, I believe.
Lastly, make sure the air conditioner doesn't have a weird smell when the A/C is off. Also make sure the air conditioner blows cold.
The car is a fairly reliable car. Mine has done very well (knock on wood). I'm very pleased with my C230 vehicle.
