2007 C230
WOW, I am getting 29.8 mpg!!!!

So I took the first trip for work in the new to me C230 today and with dirty air filters I am getting 29.8 MPG with the a/c on the whole time.

I have a set of K&Ns coming but they did not arrive before I had to leave. With them in I am betting I might have been able to squeeze out another .5-1.5 mpg compared to my dirty filters.

I had no idea the 6cyl in these could get this good, I was thinking I may get 26-27 on a good day.

I always have AC on and average 22 in the city and 29 crossing the desert to AZ....75 to 95 mph...100+ when it's clear and I feel spunky. 65 mph gets me 32 mpg.

My average combined for the life of my car is around 24.6. I've pulled almost 30 on highway trips, but I always run 80 and like to get there quickly.

Yea I had the cruise set at 80-85 most of the way. With a clean set of K&N I should get even more. Just can't believe the car gets that great of mileage on the road.

2006 C230, 2006 BMW M3, bye bye C55:(
Its funny but here we dont have a stoplight at every block and I've averaged 26mpg before in the city. My highest the cars ever read was 38mpg and that was highway doing 70, again mostly flat with few turns and straightaways.

city with "spirited"-19-22mpg

City 19-24
Hwy 23-28

It's getting better fuel economy after three back to back Techron treatments and raising the tire pressure.

I see the same numbers Andrew does. My lifetime average with premium is 25.0, and I regularly see 29-31 on highway trips when driving sane.

Is there and alternative? No one make an intake so I thought this would be the only way to get more flow out of the stock intake system.

Have you looked at the filter area and the size of the air cleaner and system piping? Really don't think the small 2.5L M272 would benefit from intake modifications. It is oversized for the application IMO.

What are your thoughts on running K&N filters?

I've been using K&N filters on all of my vehicles with the exception of the C. The common issue with them is the oil contaminating the MAF. This is usually the result of over oiling and it is easy to do. I use just enough to moisten the filter and let it "air dry" on cardboard for a few hours before re-installing it. I also clean the MAF (with CRC MAF cleaner) every time I clean the filter.

I'm considering installing one on the C but I'm a bit apprehensive about the dealer and the factory warranty.

IMO, running the K&N's is a waste on the 2.5L M272, for the reasons I stated above. Just look at the other MB vehicles that run the same exact air filters: SL500 and SL550, G500 and G550, E550, E55, CLK550, etc.

The age old K&N debate about fouling the MAF sensor is again, IMO, from improper maintenance (over oiling) more than the fault of K&N and other oiled type filters. I have been running oiled type filters for MANY miles, in MANY vehicles w/o any issues.

I'm running a cold air intake. It doesn't add much power, but there is definitely a little more pep in the low end, and a beautiful noise at WOT. I only paid about $100, and it's worth every penny. It's not a cone filter, it's like a sponge, really. I could't be happier.

Got more details or a link to it?

I bought it off a member on here... It does say http://ram-filter.com/ on it. It is used in leu of the filters in the intake manifold. It doesn't pull purely cold air, but it does pull more air, which does help. If you're ever down this way and want to take a look, let me know!

EDIT: I just bumped a thread from a couple months ago with ebay links.
