M111 supercharger silencer
M111 supercharger silencer
Ok, I know it's unlikely that anyone is going to help me with this, but I figured I try once. All I want to know is whether the silencer is on the passenger side, ie connected to the filter box before the intercooler, or driver side, ie after the intercooler.
Before I have to listen to the usual "why don't you search for it", I already have and all it comes up with is others asking this same question and being told to search for it. I have seached for hours for the original thread everyone talks about and haven't found it, so if you know where it is and (understandably) don't want to repost it please just give me a link or something.
P.S. This is for an 2002 C230 Kompressor Coupe.
P.P.S. Visual aids would be appreciated.

So, start with your eyes on the Mercedes labeled air box. Travel with the air to the left side of the engine, this goes to the bypass switch underneath. Then to the Black oil seperatore mounted on top. Below this long black oil seperator is the plenum. It is aluminum and is mounted to the supercharger.
Please note, that the S/C is an aluminum piece that requires specific torque. Don't go futzing about pieces that are easily overtorqued and stripped unless you know what you are doing.
If you take off the plenum you will see a black muffler that can be removed.
Of course this is if my memory serves correct.

Thanks EMR, I really appreciate you taking the time. I understand where it is and what to do. My buddy's shop has a super(ish) computer that gives us all the info, including the torque to tighten to. Do you still have your coupe? I would love to get to a coupe owners' meet sometime. I will hit up the other threads soon and properly introduce myself, I've just been busy with work.
Its in between the supercharger and the plenum as the pictire below.

I am jsut wondering if there is any kind of silencer in the section of the intake in the pic below tht i have outlined in red? Also would there be any sound increase if this is removed and replaced with a straight pipe connecting to the air box instead?

Actually, I do have 1 more question. Are there any negitive side effects to removing the silencer? I believe I read something about oil leakage into the intake and was wondering if this is a common problem or if it's because of mistakes made during work. And if it is inescapable, is there a solution? And will this effect the MAFS?

sorry to bring up an old post but thought it was better than starting a new one
I just pulled out the sc silencer on my m111 and am loving the sound but for some reason my car is driving almost like it is in limp mode waaaaaay slower, has anyone else had this problem because i keep hearing performance increases not decreases drastically. any help would be greatly apreciated thank you

Was it the removal of the silencer that caused your car to lose performance? I also removed my silencer and lost performance. I put New spark plugs, new maf and resetted everything but problem seems to still be there although it got better

It doesn't make sense to me that you guys are losing performance after this mod. If anything, you are running a bit lean, and the car needs to adapt.
Two things to try. Take off the ground from the battery. Overnight, let the car reset, and then reconnect to give the car a zero memory to adapt to the leaner conditons. Last is that getting near the supercharger often means people have disconnected the adaptive vain (sorry don't know the technical term) right after the air filter. This plate has a reset procedure that when not done results in poor performance. I'm done with modding my car, but C230 Sport Coup knows the procedure.

I reset my car a couple times, it didnt seem to help. It did help a little but honestly doesnt feel how my car used to before. I think you're reffering to the bypass valve, if you are I did reset that, it is working fine. I could hear my supercharger working and it sounds really loud without the silencer but it feels slow and bogs a lot of times which is probably, like you said, because its running lean. Another reason I was thinking why the silencer removal could hurt performance is because the air isn't being directed properly. But then I'm not sure why many other people who did this mod didn't run into problems. Maybe I made a mistake while trying to do the mod, but all pipes are connected tightly, all bolts are tight. I tried many different things to see if it would help. I even got a brand new MAF and spark plugs. It seems like the supercharger muffler has to be the problem.

Turns out the wastegate solenoid, or the recirculation flap, on my car isn't working! I removed it and power feels back to normal. Also, that black oil catch can attached to the recirculation flap also seems like it acts as a silencer. After I removed it, it made my car considerably louder. It seems like the car can operate normally without the recirculation flap. I have power back, and my mpg is normal too.
