Is this statement true or false?

“This high-quality 6-disc changer needs no wire splicing or confusing modifications — the Mercedes-Benz is prewired with a fiber optic cable that plugs directly into the USA SPEC changer. You can mount the compact changer at five different angles for easy installation.”

what I understand from that is once I buy the CD changer, Its going to be easy to install the CD changer since I wont need to do any rewiring.

My dealer installed mine before my car was delivered, and told me it takes a couple of hours. I believe you have to remove part of the center vents and other parts to get to the cable, etc. While it's true that it's "pre-wired", it's no simple task to install the CD. Several people on this board have done it themselves so they can give you more details. Good luck!

BTW, for 2003 the CD player is available as a factory installed option for $400. Originally my dealer wanted $800 for the CD and installation but they finally did it for $500. This was back in August 2001.

I can't answer to your question, but one thing is for sure, not many people are going to reply on a saturday early in the morning, you might want to wait 4-5 hours for a descent answer

That statement is true and false. It is true for almost every MB except for the C class. The fiber optic cables for the changer are not pre-installed for the C's.

In my case its not true, I bought OEM CD changer from Steve complete with all the wires. I had to splice 1 wake up cable. It wasn’t that hard at all. Now the CD changer works flawless .
Btw...if you wanna get OEM parts for your W203 you should contact Steve, he might be able to find em for you at a price much less than the dealers.

Your dealer lied. I have seen the radio removed and replaced in seven minutes at a local audio shop. I doesn't take much more than that to install the changer too. It takes Steve less time than two hours to retro-fit and test a Euro COMAND, and that involves cutting several wires to change pin outs, install the AUX input in the dash and install the GPS antenna. If a dealer is charging more than half an hour labor for installing a changer, they are thieves.

couple hr my a$$, dealership always tell you "oh, this will need at least two hr to do"

the guy who came to my house and installed the cd changer (OEM/MB part) did it in 15 mins for $500 as well.

I assume I don't have the wire either?
well, do we have to "open" a lot of things in the car to do it?

I really wasn't thinking about doing it my self. but I was thinking about getting one of the guys that works at the dealer here to do it for me. but now... I think I'll do it my self if I bought the CD changer.
