Improve AM/FM Reception

I heard that since our antenna is built into the rear window, you would need to replace the whole rear window. That use to be the dealers way of taking care of the issue.

Drive with your arms out the windows. If you point them in the direction of nearby broadcasting towers, the signal will be received well. The iron in the blood and your body's ability to conduct electricity will act as an antenna.
This goes the same for your cell phone. If you're out of signal, just lick your finger, then point it up into the air to boost at least 1 bar.
Ok.. kidding. But aside from that, antenna boosters/amplifiers don't do much and replacing the window and NOT using metallic tint often help.

There's a tech service bulletin for this ~
Date: March 6, 2008
Order No.: P-B-82.62/611
Supercedes:
Group: 82
SUBJECT:
Model 203.740/747/764, Up to VIN A932724
Combar Replacement Procedure
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of poor radio reception and need to replace the antenna amplifier module, please follow the below revised procedure.
Note: Due to possible water entry caused by condensation into the amplifier module (A2/71), sealing rails (metal shields) are now installed onto the amplifier module. Vehicles before VIN A932724 should have the rails installed when installing a new antenna amplifier module to avoid this condition.
Installation Procedure
1. Clean and apply primer on the rear window where protective foils (protective tape) are to be applied (left/right sides).
2. As shown in Figure 1, apply protective tape so the traces on the window are covered underneath where the amplifier will be positioned.
Note: The tape protects the traces on the window from being damaged by the sealing rails once they are installed!
3. Two sealing rails (metal shields) are to be installed. One for the left or right side (Figure 2).
4. As shown in Figure 3, attach the sealing rails to the amplifier module. The ears on the sealing rail should be evenly spaced to the double sided tape on the underside of the module as shown in Figure 3.
5. Repeat for the right side.
6. Fasten amplifier module to rear window using the alignment marks on the rear window (Figure 4.).
Parts Information
Note: The following allowable labor operations should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair. This information has been generated on March 6, 2008. Please refer to Netstar --> Star TekInfo --> Star Time for the most current labor time allowance.

I have to say, I live in the mountains and all stations are weak around here, but the radio in my 2007 E350 is the WORST I've ever seen. It does fine near a real city, but I had a Ford Escort Wagon that picked up 100x better than the MB. My Chrysler T&C van picked up fine, my F-150 picks up fine. Both will be scratchy sometimes when entering a valley.
With the MB you just don't even bother trying.
