non-amg to amg+ brake upgrade

I wanted to know if there would be any problem putting 2+ pison front calipers (say from a C32/C55) onto a car without the BBK (ie a 4matic, which only has a 1 pison front caliper).

Same question for the rear brakes, could I go from the factory 1 piston to a 2 piston.

I ask because I'm affraid the proportioning valve will be off. Adding more brake pistons means it takes more fluid to get the same amount of pad travel. So it could make the car brake more with the rear brakes then the front (which would kill performance). Or more predicatably, I would have to push the pedal very far down to get any effect. (at least further down then I have to push it now)

Has anyone done this before, please tell me if the pedal feel has changed.

I'm looking to get more inital brake bite, and more confidence when slowing from high speeds.

Hi zerocover,

I had done this on my previous car which was an acura, I replaced the single piston caliper with a dual piston caliper from another model of which the caliper bracket bolts matched with my model car and I was also using the matching rotors. Currently I own a C280 and would be intrested in doing this on my C280 when the time comes to replace the rotors/brake job. from my experienc with the acura the propotioning vale will self adjust to the new dual pistion calipers and there will be no uneven change in the pereformance of the car as far as braking is concerned. You will just need to top off the resivour with more brake fluid to the appropriate level. the performace in fact will be increased and the braking distance will be reduced and will be much much smoother.........if the caliper bracket bolts match up nicely and if the lug pattern matchs from the donor car use the rotor and caliper setup in conjunction with your car.........juts make suer that the bleed valve is pointing upwards as I made this mistake and learnt to correct it the long way....you need the bleed valve to face upwards to it to successfully allow you to bleed off the trapped air............for the "R" side marked calipers when you install on your ride's right side and the bleed valve is pointing downwards you willhave to use the "L" side marked calipers on the right side of you ride.........I hope you understand what I am trying to say.....and then you can have the bleed valve pointing upwards and ready to your to bleed successfullly.........

let me know how it works out and what was the donor car from which you are using the dual piston calipers........I would like to do the same on my 2007 C280 as well.

thankx

well first of all the c32/55 have 4 piston...not 2...the c230k has 2 piston front and 1 piston rear...the c32/55 also has the same caliper as the c230k in the rear except its a little bigger allowing for a larger ventilated caliper vice the non-ventilated one on the c230k...its a direct bolt up if you pick the right caliper...

Let me put this in a diffrent way.

Neither myself now Javvy have sport brakes.
Even C230K brakes are an upgrade to us.

Can we take the super low end brakes and bolt up anything else? (be it C230K, C32, C55, slk55, etc, I understand if we can use anyone of these we can use all of these)

It seems that 99% of people on these forums have C230's so there is very little information on non C230's. I would appreciate you not crapping on my thread, because there is very little information on non c230's.

For instance
https://mbworld.org/forums/search.php?searchid=5373177

EDIT: It has been done

C24Owner pulled it off in his c240 4matic. C32 calipers fit all around. However we need new brake lines. He seems to be the only guy thats pulled it off, on any 4matic. Now to make sure the C240 and C280 4matics are the same. Also to find that brake line part number

It is a pretty direct swap. I have a full set of C55 brakes up for sale. Calipers, rotors, and pads. Front pads need to be replaced and the front caliper should be repainted if you want it to look Brand new. Rear pads are good, rotors are good, and all the calipers are in working order. Looking for $800.00 shipped.

W203 Elegance C200K Kompressor (M271)
Lightbulb

Guys,

I'm from Malaysia. I owned a C200 Kompressor (W203). I purchased one complete set of front and rear AMG C55 caliper + rotor from one of the US sellers.

I did my own upgrade at home. For those of you who would like to upgrade their current braking system, my advise is to go for the AMG C32, C55 or the C230K Advangard version.

Installation is extremely simple. Just PLUG & PLAY only. Because the mounting points are exactly 100% the same as your current W203 rotor and caliper.

When you get the C32, C55 or C230K advangard version, pls make sure that you get both Rotor and Caliper in one complete set. The brake pads are the same for C32, C55 and C230K advangard. Since you are upgrading the brake, why not also go with the new BRAKE STEEL LINE to enhance your braking system as well??

The Brake sensor cable is the same as the normal mercedes benz brake sensor. The only difference i noticed is that, the rear AMG C32 and C55 rotor is TWIN plated. Whereas the normal C230K advangard is single plated only.

I bought my complete AMG C55/C32 front and rear rotor, caliper and steel lines x 4 pcs at USD900 only. Of course, i arranged my own shipper to pick it up from Seller, because Seller doesn't offer international shipment.

NOTE:
1. Your current Rotor (regardless front or rear) will not fit the AMG C55 or C32. Pls take note!
2. You need a different set of SPARE WHEEL to keep in your trunk, because your current spare wheel won't fit in case of emergency.

One last comment, you need to look for a RIM with WHEEL OFFSET 36 minimum in order to fit this AMG brakes. The correct RIM specs should be:

front: 225/45/R17 (offset 36 minimum)
rear: 245/40/R17 or 235/45/R17

Standard wheel of 16" would not fit into this AMG Calipers. Only minimum 17" wheel size and above would fit.

Let me know if you need more info. I am very happy with my brake now.

Hope this helps! Cheers!

BR,
Derek Wong (Malaysia)

C230k front brakes (non sport) are 1 piston. The 230k sport brakes share the same rotor size as the C32/55 setup (13.6") but only have 2 pistons. As aforementioned, C32/55 are 4 piston Brembo units. GREAT upgrade.
