This just started about a week ago.
Car is fully serviced (plugs, fuel filter, cam sensor replacement at dealer), etc.
On the first start of the day, the car feels like it is running on three cylinders. I don't give it more than 2-3 seconds before I detect the condition. Turn it off, then turn it right on again and it's fine.
I did search. Sounds like the M271 motor has throttle body issues, but this is the M111 motor. I've only had the car for 10k, but so far no problems.
Should I see if it self corrects on the first start? No codes, no CEL. I'd rather not unless I get a consensus. Input welcome! I am thinking of running some Techron for giggles, but it's got new plugs and filter already... hmm.
Input welcome!

This sounds like a CoilPack issue. I'd replace each coil pack until you found the offending coil.
This is a really easy thing to fix.

Negative.
It is immediately fine upon a restart. so..
0630 - Start the car, turn it off within 2 seconds.
0630 and 3 seconds - Start car again, it starts and runs just fine. =)
Doesn't seem to match coil pack problems I have read about, does it? [thank you]

It started acting a little better...
So I hit it with a 20gal (service) bottle of Techron. I flogged it a little bit, but forgot it was in there and filled up at 1/4 tank...
No return problems yet, I'll keep you posted... and try to get the revs up to clean it up.

While I'd imagine that one time with that much techron won't hurt, I believe Glyn (the oil man himself) said that too much Techron can be corrosive. Just so you know in the future.

Mine does this exactly from time to time.
Shakes spits, and shudders, then turn off restart, and all is well.
I chose to ignore it. It hasn't become a big issue.

OK, so my wife just bought a 2002 c230 with 114 k miles on it. It now does this exact same thing. Start....rough and violent shake. Turn off and fine. Few days later again.....Start....ROUGH and violent shake.

When it does this sheet, turn it off and restart it.
Problem solved.
