So if you want to keep the car, sadly that means keeping it away from Benz dealers.

It's extremely disappointing that they blew through $500, then $3100 and the car doesn't work. I know the $500 was from before this happened, but they really should inspected the car better. You might try to look at the service order in detail to see what they did. Then follow up with the manual to see what services were "supposed" to be included in the service A. If inspecting coolant lines was specifically mentioned then you might get somewhere with the dealership. And I suppose they could always say the hoses failed in an area that was not covered.
As far as your previous experiences with complaining about the cooling light coming on, can you provide more details about this??? Are you talking about the last time you took it to FJ? If so, how long ago was that? And did you mention that when you took it in for Service A this time??

if lines are cracked (never seen that on S that age) let them show you or pictures
When it comes to coolant warnings, whatever type of car you're driving, if you ever get a coolant low or check coolant or any coolant light, pull over and turn off the car immediately. Then visually inspect to see if there's coolant leak anywhere, and check the reservoir to see if there's any coolant left. If there isn't any coolant, car has to be towed and not driven, otherwise the engine will overheat.

good luck. From all the reading Fletcher Jones seemingly has always sucked for both sales and support.
I really hope you have pictures of those cracked lines before they removed them and replaced them because I don’t know how any mechanic would do work these days without proof…
In older cars, you can turn on the heater, which will help cool some of the coolant..
Not a good thing to do either way, if all your coolant is leaked out..

At that point the car was taken to a notoriously expensive MB dealer who proceeded to change the lines and refill with coolant but that engine was toast.
I'm guessing he is now happily motoring around with a used engine.
