Found this piece next to the spare tire in the back of my coupe. Ive had the car for over a year and just noticed it today!

Any idea what it is or where it goes or what its purpose is? I tried fitting it around in the trunk and couldn't figure it out.

That piece is the handle for the flap on the floor panel of the coupe trunk. I'm talking about the panel you lift to access the spare tire compartment. The piece that flips out allows the hatch to attach to a clip under the trunk cover (the piece with 2 strings that lifts with the hatch door).

OK, you just made me go look in the trunk of mine. Yep, it's there. Now I know what it is for. Had never noticed it....weird. I know I have taken it out before.

 

Wow...I read and re-read that and still cant seem to picture it. Maybe if I look at my trunk tomorrow, I might be able to see what I cant seem to picture now. Thanks for the info though!

Meanwhile, if any of you could snap a quick cell phone pic of the damn thing in a self-explanatory position, that would be great.

nevermind...figured it out.

The piece has actually broken off the floor mat locking thingy, but nothing some super glue cant fix.
