Question about replacing battery , fuel filter, and brake pads
So my sister has a 2003 c240 4matic and she needs to replace her battery, fuel filter, and brake pads soon. She went to the dealership and bought all the parts for $500 alone -_-. Other than that, I was wondering if its hard to replace all those parts myself. I have some experience from dealing with my 1998 honda civic before but is the c240 way different from the civic?
Or is it better off just letting a shop do it?
BTW, is there any sites online where i can get oem parts for cheap? or any brand name parts cheap?

shouldve have bought akebono pads for 135 for the front and rear. fuel filter from oreilys or a parts store is around 45-50 and a battery is around 165 so you couldve gotten all the parts for about 75 less. theres DIY in the forum, its one of the first couple of threads in the w203 forum. When doing your battery make sure you take the ground first then positive and when reconnecting put postive first then ground second. I believe thats correct. She should have the manual in the car to tell you how to do the battery change also it'll tell you how to resync the auto window roll downs and sunroof.

^ Has anybody posted a fuel filter DIY? Can't seem to find one..
This would definitely help. I'm approaching 100,000km and am thinking of bringing it to the dealer.

The word on the street is if you call Mercedes Road Side Assistance you can get the battery replaced for 150 out the door (plus tip).
A good site would be rmeuropean.com and getmercedesparts.com These are the cheapest original parts sites that I know of.
fuel filter DIY huh?..coming right up

^ Karo, thanks for the link.
Looking at the PDF file.. 2 questions.
1. Is that fuel filter inside the cabin then?
2. How many of those clamp pieces do you need? (I'm guessing 2)
Thanks in advance!
ps Karo you should start a new thread called "DIY Fuel Filter Change" and request that it get stickied. I never knew this PDF existed at all!

Just saw your reply.
It's under the car (rear left) and you just have to remove the cover then there is a shield after that you will see what's in the picture.
I'm guessing two clamps as well, one from tank and the other from filter to engine.
I've never changed the fuel filter on the 203 but on a regular car I never used a clamp. Just a bucket and pressed my thumb against the hole so the gas doesn't spill. Just wear goggles just incase.
Good Luck

^ Not quite. For the rear calipers you also have to remove a pin. There's a special hammering tool but I just banged out the pins using a screwdriver. Dented the pins that way but it's fine as that part of the pin is not load-bearing. I'd say it's a 2-person job though unless you have 4 hands. 2 hands to push in this clip that hold the pin in place, and the other hands to bang out the pin.
