Do you have the factory system or the HK7 system? I have the stock system and it's not too bad so I have no plans on upgrades. I hear that Trey's Bose system is awesome, though.

I have an eclipse 12 in my trunk, I have the basic system so I wanted more boom. Planning on doing a full system in my car, HU, speakers, and custom enclosure to help maximize space since I use the trunk sometimes.

I changed out my original single din cassette HU for a Pioneer AVIC about 6 motnhs ago and was pleasantly surprised by the increase in sound quality.
The OEM speakers are capable of handling much more than the original HU can produce, so before swapping out speakers and adding subs etc, I would recommend getting a higher powered head unit (or add an in-line amplifier).
I agree with the other guys...unless you love headbanging while driving, subs are totally not necessary in the Benz IMHO

A word of caution. Be careful with automatic car washes.
There has been a rash of amp failures in the HK7 cars. These amps are expensive ($1000) and without them the stereo won't play at all. Symptoms are silence from the stereo once and for all or occasional. Some members have reported moisture in the trunk after an automatic car wash and it doesn't seem coincidental to me.
