Crayons in the deep crevices of my car. Melted crayons.
I regret letting small children share rides with me. The boy just HAD to color. He left his crayons on my sliding wood panel to the south of my shifter, where the wood is sliced horizontally into many pieces so it can slide and flex. The crayons melted and are in each and every slice of the wood crevices, made it past my cigarette lighter, and to who knows what beneath. I need to remove the plastic piece that you can place change on, which is also where the cigarette lighter is located. After I remove that, I can access the lower regions of my poor benz and also remove the wooden slider to clean and polish. Kill me.
How do I remove the said piece of plastic? I've pried it in all directs to no avail, afraid of the already brittle plastic snapping.

a quarter mile at a time
pry the chrome boot shifter off and pass it through, the wood trim piece should then be free to pull off. Looks like yours is a pre-facelift car so i'm not 100% sure, but look beneath the cupholder for a rubber piece, remove the rubber piece and there should be a screw underneath. Unscrew and remove.

Next time, carpool with another couple to the NAMBLA mixer.
Check my thread on swapping out the glovebox; I think that I have some pics and a description of what you would need to do.
Cliff's Notes version: open the cupholder, remove rubber mat underneath, twist cupholder and remove without breaking it, tilt down ciggy lighter, remove it by unplugging it at the back, then bring accordian "door" forward and over the stops in front without breaking it.
Many possible ways to f*ck it up, so make sure that you have absolutely no other way to clean it up before starting to remove stuff.

I have had to remove crayons from plastic/vynal and it sounds crazy but get a hair dryer and heat it up, it will liquify again and you can wipe it up like water, it makes it much easier to pull out of crevises.
PS people get in my car and tell me it smells like crayons or playdoh, I have noticed its a common smell reported upon entering a W203 as well as many an E class. People say that it means I cleaned it, just a random side note.
