Instrument cluster problem
Dear Forum members,
I am new here, hoping to get some addvice on a W203 problem i have with my wifes car.
She wanted to sell her car, I decided to put in beter order before sale, put new rims and tyres, cleaned it up, the dashboard and instrument cluster had some sun damage as the car is afrika, they managed to restore the dash a litle and i gave the instrument cluster to an elektrician that said he can change the cover, when we put back the instrument cluster, it is working fine, but is giving all kinds of erors, like low coolant lewel, worn brake lining, ABS foulty etc.
I put it on a scaner to check and it said no comunication with CAN bus on instrument cluster, it also said no mesage or faulty message from instrument cluster. Tried disconecting batery and replacing back, tried clearing the fault from scaner, but no change.
Any addvice will be appreciated. There are no MB services, or dealerships here awailable, so I am on my own with what litle equipment we have here.

Things i have tried
Well I see a lot of people have seen my post, but no replies. Well let me update the issue. I have tried to put in some other used instrument clusters as I was told this should work fine, all works but the milage shows -----, i was told the milage is in the ecu so it should read the way the old one did, but tried about 3 diferent ones and all the same thing------.
Is there anybody out there that knows where i can get a cluster to buy that would work, or where can i get a new one or what can be done with the used ones to make them work.
Any ideas will be welcome.
thanx

There is nothing you can do without a Star DAS. How close is your nearest dealer? Take a spare cluster & take the car to a dealer. You can't do this yourself. It requires to be adapted with a Star diagnostic machine.
Modern highly electronic cars don't belong in the middle of Africa unfortunately.
Where are you?
Good luck!

Thanx for the advice,
does it have to be the srtar DAS, I have some other equipment here, I have the X431, we also have an autoboss diagnostic set here, no dealers around.
What has to be done to the cluster, is it something that can be done through the OBD socet, or it has to be done from the e-prom.
If need be I can try and order a Star diagnostic, it might be usefull for other cars I have here as well, as long as it will solve the problem, if anyone knows about the procedure to folow, please let me know.

A STAR DAS is a US$20,000 piece of kit. This can be achieved more cheaply with Chinese bits & pieces & your own laptop.
PM Karo or Johnand - they both own STAR's.

Used Instrument Cluster replacement
My S430 Y2000 IC failed on me recently (no back lights, some gauges don't work...).
Just wondering if I buy a used IC from Internet would it require to have the dealer reprogram it before it would be fully functional? Any other suggestions would greatly appreciated!
Thx-
