I set my pressures at 4 psi over the recommended pressure in my Pilot Sports.

Hmm I run 38 front and 33 rear.

I used to run 36 rear but my continentals showed signs of overinflations.

33 Seems to keep the esp off some more and has the tread flatter in the rear

Tons of potholes up here, and with all that weight on the front I keep the front wheels pumped up to protect the rim. Last time I was runnin at the manf reccomended 29/32, I got bubbles on 2 out of the 4 continental tires. Yeah there tires suck badly 1 ply non reinforced sidewall etc, but by inflating them more I havent had a problem. Im runnin really cheep nankang tires now with 2500 miles and there wearing evenly.

I just tried these higher pressures when I put my C7's back on recently. I didn't run them that high last year, but it seems to work well. I also seem to get less interaction from ESP and better handling. Although that may just have to do with having less tread and better stability of the tires.

hey lynn, what advantage is there to having the psi set higher than the recommonded setting. is that for colder areas? i thought that psi set to high would give uneven where or something for the tires. i have michillen pilot on my car. thanks!

I find any car handles better with somewhat higher pressure. Most manufacturers set the recommended pressure as low as they safely can to make the ride softer.

At four pounds over, the rear tires are wearing evenly, and the front are wearing a little faster on the outside.

Mfr recomendations don't take into account a lot of factors, so use them as a basis. You should experiment and choose what works best for you. Pay attention at tread wear. Don't forget that if the pressure is on a low side, your rims are more likely to get damaged - especially with low profile tires (35/40/45).

My car came with contintal sport contacts, I keep a close eye on the psi as the weather changes and always set them to them to spec after the car has been sitting durring the day. I have 5,300 miles on my car now and the tires show no signs of wear at all. As you drive the air pressure will raise about 4 psi in the front and 2 in the rear this will put you at 32 front and 34 rear while driving. The fact that front brakes make more heat will cause them to increase more. Some people overlook the fact that tire pressure goes up while you drive. Cold weather has nothing to do with setting tire psi unless you never check them from summer or fall to winter. then they will be low, I noticed that most cars comming in for service in the fall have tire pressure at 22 and 28 when i bring them in the shop. Over infating tires will not only make them wear funny but increase braking distance in a panic stop situation.
