Red face Fan on high all the time

hello all,

I did the search and felt that my problem is a little bit different from the rest.

A little history, the low coolant sensor and the washer fluid sensor has always been on for quite sometime. The other day, I was speeding and got this "Coolant visit workshop" message.

Now, the fan is always on high regardless of the A/C on or off. I checked the coolant reservoir and it look full. I also squeeze the coolant tube in the front of the engine and I do see the flow going to the coolant reservoir.

I read the other forum, but it was regarding the CLK fixes and the problem is not exactly the same.

Any ideas, as I am sure you guys are full of them. My car is at 70K.

Thanks

Could be a few different things. Is the car running hot? Also is the fan on even if the car isn't running? The coolant and washer sensors work together on this car, it is possible that one is making the others light come on. If both of these check out ok it is also possible that the fan is going out. Also, is the a/c working proberly? If not, a pressure switch could be going out as well. If you need the price on any of these items click the yellow web site link above.

Thanks MBSouthAtlanta,
The car isn't hot at all (between 85-90C). The fan only on when the engine is on. The coolant level and washer fluid were on for months before I get the "Coolant visit workshop". The A/C does work really well, freaking cold.

Check refrigerant charge but sounds like the pressure/temp switch is playing up.

Sorry to say at this point I do not have any more information without getting the car diagnosed. There are a few different things still it could be. You need to get someone to diagnose it. Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Does any one knows where the "Temp Switch" is on the C240 2003? And also how do I test this switch?

Thank you.

IMHO - testing the switch is not DIY

The fan is ON when the engine ISN'T on and they key is at the ready to start position. Would that mean anything? I am ready to take my car in to check out on Monday.

This can be normal if the aircon is switched on. It should not be running flat out however unless the car has heatsoaked after a hard run.

Well...the verdict is out. I was told at the repair shop that the fan is bad. And to replace it would cost $$1070. Who are they kidding??? With the help of you guys and the DIY guides. I could do it for $250. But probably not even bother. I probably wired it through a relay that I can control. Till the fan burn out, then I will replace it.

Thanks for helping so far guys. Freaking cost me $109 for them to tell me that the fan is bad.

How can the fan be bad when fan is 'on' all the time? Sounds like a relay or switch problem to me.

Well the fan comes with the fan controller & the fan controller might be bad - but I wonder if they are correct ??
