New Rims and now I have a bunch of issues.
I recently put a set of 19" Mandrus Milleniums on my 2005 C230 Sport Sedan. I do not have any rubbing in the wells but I have some new noises that I am having a hard time with.
The first one sounds like a rubbing sound that goes away when I press the brakes. As soon as I let off the brakes it comes back. It does not matter what speed I am going, I can still hear it with the windows down.
The second sound is rattle that happens when the car is put in gear and starts rolling. It sounds like a heat shield but I don't think it is.
Here is the confusing part. I took the new rims off because the car was involved in an accident and both the sounds went away. I put the stock rims on and there is no rubbing sound or rattle.
The only thing that is different with the new rims is the lug nuts they sent me. They were chrome dipped (even the threads) and very hard to install. I feel like the lugs are tight but maybe one of them isn't. Could this cause the sounds I hear?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. If the lugs that came with the rims are too long where would I go for a shorter set?
I contacted the company that sold me the rims and they have no clue.
Does anyone know the correct bolt length for the rims I have. I need to order a set ASAP.
Thanks again.

The rim company is going to send me a new set of bolts that are shorter.
The sound is back though. Still riding around with the factory rims and the sound is back. Did something get damaged? How do I go about checking the parking brake system out?
Is there a part number for new pads or shoes? I need this noise to go away.

Pull the rear park brake rotor hats/drums & check.

avoid chrome bolts if you are getting new bolts.
check out rad-usa.com for quality bolts.
the rubbing sound can just be your pads getting worn.
the long bolts for the rear unless they are really long which creates a loud metal on metal clink/snapping noise you should be okay.

I had that clinking sound with the new rims and bolts on there. I only have the rubbing sound now with the old rims and bolts back on.
I will check out the site for some non chrome bolts. Any idea what size I need? The place I bought the rims from is having trouble figuring it all out.

I guess I should have said the parking brake pads. I changed the rear brake pads earlier this year. They shouldn't need to be replaced for some time.
I would assume I just need to take the caliper and rotor off to changes the parking brake pads. Probably held on by springs.

Yes - remove caliper - undo retaining screw in the hat - see diagram & pull of hat/rotor. The brake shoe setup is a minature of rear drum brakes from older cars.

Good start, get new shoes on while you have it all apart. Once you can finally see all the components you can see what has been damaged or broken.
Might be too late now but sometimes it's only one or two wheels causing the problems (should match lug bolts on all 4 corners to be safe when another shop touches them or you change out for winter), the best thing to do is grab a buddy and have him walk beside the car slowly as your moving, determine what wheel is hitting, what the sound sounds like outside.
Shorter bolts save lives & brakes.
Make sure you have minimum 6 turns from the first click of the threads.
