If he is absolutely sure he has replaced both camshaft position sensors AND both magnets, then all that is left is the camshaft control valves themselves. Both the intake and exhaust camshaft control valves have been revised 3 times already. They are about $66 retail and can be had for around $50 each online. Not that hard to replace. Just remove the magnets, and unscrew them from the camshaft timing gears. The part numbers are A2720500478 for the intake and A2720500578 for the exhaust.

Just remembered P0014 and P0019 are "B" position errors, meaning exhaust cams. So, you need to replace both the exhaust cam control valves. Codes indicate both intakes are fine.

could be wrong here but the newest version of the camshaft magnets are 272 051 01 77, the old versions on the vehicle should be 272 051 00 77. These are very common to go bad.

Yep, very common on the M272. But, the OP said they already replaced them.

Yes, these are a common problem for ALL M272 W203's and various other models use the same magnets. Even my 07 that was one of the last W203's off the assembly line had one go bad.

Not too big of a deal, as the magnets are cheap and easy to replace. Plus, most of the time they don't cause major driveabilty problems, just the intermittent CEL.

Just brought my car to dealer because of cam shaft a/b postioning sensor.. it was covered under warranty. i think they gave me some bull and told me they had to remove the engine to replace the sensors. anyways it took 5 days to repair.

the 07 c230 is the m272 motor. therefore no updated wiring had been done. maybe a camshaft adjustment solenoid replaced but no wiring.

I would check the part number of the solenoids that the engine light is coming up for. I would say they are the old style and need replacing.

benzogirl25, your car probably had the bad balance shaft. these cars will throw a camshaft adjustment code for the check engine. there is a bulletin that shows the correlation between the 2. removal of the engine is required to do this.

MB 2006 C230
codes p0016/p0017 MB 1200/1208

These codes are as you have noted crank/cam correlation sensors . The cost to get the check engine light to stay out is " are you sitting down?"
5000 to 7000 $$$$$. MB claims the cause is a worn sprocket on the balance shaft. The engine has to come out and the followinf parts installed balance shaft , weights ,sprocket, oil pump, 4 magnets as well as two oil changes and two filters. A real problem occurs at between 60000 and shortly after 80000 the warrenty. Mine at 90000 if not sooner. Class action suit launched in New Jersey on Oct. 5 2010

I get this from time to time. It goes away the next day. It usually happens when I start the car and drive hard. But if I coast it for 10 -20 min then drive hard nothing. Good info Kitchen. I'll definitely keep that in mind if mine gets worse.

I would like to know how many miles is it safe to put on the car after the trouble codes indicate that a balance shaft needs to be replaced. There was 90000km on mine when the lite came on for sure, there is 100155 on it now , they cannot do the work until January or February . Should I continue to drive it?
