Calling Karo
You work at a big office and you get mail there.
Switch:
The mailman delivers the mail directly to each employee.
Hub:
The mailman puts all mail in a pile and each employee looks through it and pics up their mail.
Let's say you want to track your employees' mail to see if they get mail they aren't suppose to (intruder). You must first tell the mailman to put all mail in a pile (Hub) then you hire a person (Snort) that monitors the mail and if bad mail comes through he or she doesn't allow you to pick it up.
Bad mail will still come through but it will not be delivered.
Hope this explain things a little better.

Anyhoo. For the Hub(or switch in this case) where it goes directly to the router, what is the purpose this serves for? Isn't this line unmonitored? For CEO usage? or your usage?
