When I see multiple failures occuring at the same time, and there are no codes in the memory, I would give the battery and alternator a good going over. Conductance testing with a Midtronics device is the only way to properly evaluate the battery.

http://www.midtronics.com/home/suppo...ctancefaq.aspx

You should also only replace the battery with the Mercedes specified unit so you have enough current available for all the consumers in the cars. There are no battries in the normal battery replacement market that have enough capacity to meet Mercedes spec.

You should never pay the dealer to change the battery if it is bad. Call roadside and they will supply the labor billing only for the battery if it is out of warranty.

Agree about the battery.

This is the first time I've read on here of an ESP module failure on a later model W203. As for the W204, I've had a loaner C350 W204 too and was not impressed.

Well not to thread rob here but, since were reached a battery alternator part of the topic; I got a message displaying
BATTERY ALTERNATOR!
VISIT WORKSHOP
so I checked the voltage coming to the battery with a voltage meter and she was only loading 12.23 instead of normal 13. 25 <== I believe <(correct me if im wrong .)
I shut the car off and the message is gone and, the voltage meter read 13.25 wich is working fine
QUESTION
Is this a concern or could it have been the LA heat making her run that message on my display ¿¿¿

My battery only shows 12.3v when the car is off. Shows 14.2v when driving around and 13.5v or so at idle. I think 12.7 is considered fully charged and 11.7 is completely dead.

Measuring the terminal voltage is not a reliable way to asses the condition of the battery in terms of longevity. To properly predict the expected life of a battery the conductance of the battery must be measured.

Alternators are a collection of passive and active electrical components as well as precision mechanical parts. Testing with a common voltmeter only tells part of the story. A dedicated tester can test all necessary systems in the alternator to avoid replacing a good unit.

The battery terminal voltahe can be measured by the front SAM. Dance on the odo reset buttotn three times just after turning the key on will bring up the "Dyno Mode" on the MFD. Ub shown is the terminal voltage of the battery. The display will also show the liters of oil the sensor is reading.

I asked them to do a voltage check based on your suggestion, and the battery is actually in awesome shape (they replaced it I guess when I purchased it back in OCT last year) so its not the battery, she just called me back this morning to tell me that.

Matt I am with you the W204 was not impressive, between the crap materials and the lack of some features Ive gotten used to on mine (tunnel mode, sun shade, ect) I dont think Ill ever be buying one, but the power was super, every one knows I have C350itus.

If you think C350 power is "super" you'd really be in love with a real sports sedan - like the 335i or S4. Those are expensive, though, if you just want C350 power a Camry V6 can provide it.

Oh I like the 350 for being an upgrade from a 230, but Id never own one, I have driven a 335 and it def is a rocket. The 350 would fail for me because of the crap interior, and how stiff everything seemed to be, now that I got my car back, I notice how soft it is, buttons, seats, clutch, everything, the W204 was just stiff. Im going to write a review on it since Ive been in many nice Benz's that past 2 weeks.

The ESP mod, was def replaced, it says in notes, voltage check ran, and connectors checked on ESP, and the module, was replaced and codes cleared. It hasnt come up yet but If it does, we know its not ESP but the guys at MB sar are pretty smart so.

Also for reference the part is 925.00 and like 194.95 to install. Part number is 0336-540-04-01

Also they did a B service and in the oil change thing it says 001-986-80-71-17 Windshield W, what is that and why is it in on the oil change?

Did the ESP module change fix your problem. Because I'm having the same problems and the ESP warning light has been on on my car for 5 months but I never got the below faults until now.
1. ABS warning light
2. Brake Pad Lining
3. Speedometer stopped working

On my car however, it feels like it's stuck in the same gear when I try to drive it without the speedometer. The transmission doesn't seem to be shifting.
I have a 2001 C240. I don't have warranty on it.
