to take it far away until this wkn. I am pleasantly suprised by
the good gas mileage it provides.
drove from SF southbay down to LA and back this wkn.
went down by hwy 5, mostly 80 to 90 mph, avg 27.7 mpg.
back by hwy 101, doing mostly 60 to 80 mph, avg 29 mpg.
one tank of gas for 400 miles+.
yet, day to day city driving yields only 20 to 22 mpg.
On our C240, with smaller displacement but also shorter gearing, we are averaging around 20-22 mpg in suburban, and that goes to 27-28 on trips. [Our car has less than 4k miles on it, however, so it may get microscopically better in the next few months.]
Gearing is everything, by the way: our '98 E320, with a engine identical to yours in a car that weighs marginally more, but with even longer gearing than yours, actually achieved over 30 mpg on an early trip in its life, at 75mph speeds and the AC on about half the time.
