no clue but i think it is a special type of torx. search for power mirror install or something like that i am sure they will tell you what type of driver is needed to remove it.

The screws that hold the morror assembly to the door are standard Torx screws that have a "washer head" and are gold alodine color. There is only one photo in your post, and it shows a black security Torx screw. Perhaps your car was serviced by a careless mechanic who used any screw handy to fix your car?

You need to get the security torx bits to remove th screws. They are like that to prevent thef of the mirror.

M-B used to use standard T20 torx screws for the mirrors for years...........then they switched to the special tamperproof 6 point torx(probably because of all the a-holes stealing M-B mirrors for their Honduhs)..........and now they have switched back to standard torx screws. You can buy the M-B "special tool" torx bit from the dealer for about $12 retail.

Do you happen to know the part number for just the lens part of the side view mirrors?
I'm talking about the plasticy part in the front of the side-view mirrors, and not the mirror itself.
Mine is cracked on the drivers side, and I'd like to have it replaced before I have it tinted
Thanks

What are the tools called to remove the "opposite" of these?
When I open my drivers door, theres 2 screws that holds one of the hinges and it looks like its "inside out" compared to this one.
Just curious, thanks!

Security Torx bits will remove these screws. Harbor Freight sells the set for around $7.
Or, you can carefully drill out nipple at the center. Once that is removed, then you can just use the regular Torx bit.

I thought a regular 12mm wrench works on holding/removing them?
I believe they're called "inverted torx" screws/nuts.
Or at least that's what I read from the Sway-Bar DIY thread
