So I posted a thread a couple of months ago regarding my C230K and how my engine was completely busted. Had it replaced and will be posting pics very soon. However, now I need some more advice from you guys. I need diagnostic software to take care of a few things and replace some other items. Does anyone know of any software or diagnostic tools that I should look out for and purchase? Thanks.

P.S. Since the repair. I'm kinda broke. Need something cheap. but effective.

im sure Glyn will chime in here soon, but pretty much you cant do anything programming wise on our cars without STAR

When you say diagnostics software do you mean OBDII? If so the cheapest OBDII scanner is 40 bucks. The best diagnostics software is SDS/DAS which is 800 bucks.

But then you have to follow exact directions and configure everything correctly and might have trouble finding a good laptop or worse your multiplexer might get on the blacklist so prices may go up. You might be better off just getting a premade one from 900 to 1,000 because it's ready to go and if the multiplexer get's blacklisted you might be able to send it back.

I'm looking for OBDII diagnostic software that will allow me to read the codes and add/delete codes if needed. It was suggested that I get something if I planned on doing any work on my car myself. Of course I could be wrong.

Go to Kragens, Harbor Freight etc. Buy an OBDII scanner for 50 bucks that reads the code & tells you what it means - Looking up codes in a manual is a pain. That's all you really need. If you are a real enthusiast you can buy a $200 Innova Equus. The next step up is Karo's full STAR.
